Falcon is a good character with a great costume design. It just works. And Mego did a great job with it. I swear I saw a commercial as a kid with Falcon and Shazam! figures, but I've yet to see it anywhere on youtube or any of the Mego commerical tapes/DVDs. I wanted both of those guys as a kid, but had to wait 25 years or more.

Yeah, Mego screwed up the hands and had unintentional racial backlash. If I ever track dowm a nice, loose piece I'll replace the hands with Doc's brown or white hands.

Overall, great figure. Too bad he was Mego's token.

I don't think there was any backlash at all with the hands. I don't think people noticed toys in a political way back then.

I remember having a lot of Falcon cards shortly after they came out ... Like maybe 15 or 20.
Seemed like nobody on the Museum needed any, so I gave away a good many to my ebay winning bidders....
BTW, I only gave cards to people who bought vintage toys etc.

So at one time, I did have quite a few in hand.

        Now I only have 1 ... but that's enough

I STILL don't get the "racial" issue...seems you have to make quite a stretch
to connect POTA hand usage to a "racial jab"...even if you WERE to make a
racial connection between POTA apes and African-Americans...it would say
more about yourself and your own personal distorted racial views than
it would say about a toy company that was simply reusing hands from a line
that had already been in production.

Everytime I see this discussed, it makes me cringe because I feel
Megoers don't even realize this simple scenario and are creating
an unwarranted and damaging controversy where one doesn't exist.

I think it's more a comment on our times. In this day and age when controversey can erupt of the silliest things a toy company would not make such a "mistake". I agree it's a manufactured controversy on our part.

Not knowing anything about the character .... If I noticed the hands and nobody ever said anything to me back in the day, I would have thought it was done on purpose to finish the bird theme ... Perhaps the back of the hands are covered with feathers.
As a dumb kid, that's what I would have thought.

                Great post, RSS.

I had all of those 3rd-wave WGSH; I was at just that age where I had bit more awareness of my toy requests.

I remember liking the Falcon a lot; esp. the wings & boots. I wanted him so badly, I cajoled Mom into letting me order him through Heroes' World (via comics), because I hadn't seen him at retail. (We lived in rural Ohio & shopping was limited. Sears, JC Penney, & Monty Wards were king!)

I had Falcon before I got Cap; the one in my collection now features vintage Penguin hands.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I remember getting the Falcon when I was in kindergarden at KB toys. I don't know why I chose him over Green Arrow or Iron Man but I always thought afterwards he was a well made figure. Definately one of the best in the line.

Falcon was one of my fav comic book characters. I loved the "B" level guys, cause you weren't beat over the head with them. Great Mego.

I love The Falcon! I think he's a great Mego.

I didn't have one as a kid, but it was one of the first one a picked-up when I got into collecting. I was very proud of the deal I got, too. I think I won an auction for about $15 on eBay and he's in awesome shape.

I didn't know about the hands initially and I had to come to the board to make sure someone didn't sell me Apes hands. He came with an Apes M-16 so I was royally confused, but Ant told me all was well.

He was one of my favorites. I totally flipped when I got him. I had Cap at the same time this was around the Height when Kirby was doing Cap again. I use to act out the comics and I would fly him around the house. Great memories!!

Growing up in my Mego World, Cap and Falcon were like Batman and Robin.
