Mego of the Day: The Falcon

Our Mego of the Day is Marvel comics The Falcon, when people talk about Mego at the height of their creativity, the Green Arrow is often mentioned but honestly, look at this guy! Those boots, the wings, the outfit, he's one of the best Mego ever produced.

Don't think I knew who The Falcon was back in the day, let alone had one of the figures, but I think he's a cool lookin' Mego. The boots are my favorite part. I've got no use for them for anything else in the custom world, but they are still so cool.

One of my favorites in the WGSH line. I didn't have him growing up, I must have shifted my focus to POTA, Micronauts or Star Wars figures by the time he was released. Because I would have wanted him for sure. He joined the Avengers at one point and my interest in him really peaked.

      A great looking mego.

I wrote Steve Englehart on his website how Sam Wilson was one of my favorites from the Cap Secret Empire storyline, plus before and after.

One of the first sidekicks not written as a sidekick, but instead as his own man..

Seeing FALCON alongside CAP on CA comics in the 70s was enough to sell
me on the figure as a kid, but I never got one---was a must have as an adult.

Not being a comic reader, I used to think Falcon was totally made up by Mego as a token black superhero.

I never knew he actually was REAL until I started collecting later on.

Falcon was the last Mego I got as a kid (I got Falcon and my little brother got Hulk). I have no idea why I picked him. Might have been the Cap connection or I must have just thought he was cool, which he is. He's proudly in my display now. I'd like to find one without ape hands.

I remember getting my Falcon like yesterday. My aunt was pregnant and had some sort of shopping embargo to one of those big baby stores in downtown Toronto. My mother went along and I guess I had to as well.

I thought it would be pretty dull but then I turned a corner and BAM! WGSH Display box with the Falcon right in the middle. I'd never seen him before and he's honestly all I remember about the display, I was pretty captivated. I remember I couldn't reach the WGSH and had to ask my mother to get him down.

Being a big Cap fan as a kid I had to have him. I think my parents ordered mine from Heroes World back in the day. In the Mego commercials they refer to him as the black superhero. Well, duh! While I would have prefered that Mego had made a Powerman, The Falcon is one of the best figures in the WGSH lineup.

I loved him as a kid. Any Mego that looked cool flying was good for hours of play. Plus, i was a big Marvel kid and he was a must have.

The Falcon was one of the first figures I re-collected as an adult. I remember thinking the seller had switched the body on me because he had POTA hands. CLEARLY Mego would not have led something like this slip and face possible accusations of rascism. I guess times do change

I really like the Falcon, both as a Mego and a comic character. I like the wings. I think he is a pretty nice design and would like a minty one in a box. I would also like his MM Card which has become rather elusive.

                        I love his boots.

The MM card is pretty hard to get, my own supply is very low. I don't know what happened, I think we printed 1000 of those.

I don't have many of those either, those were the crazy times of me shipping 99% of the cards out there at a go.

I remember getting the Falcon as a kid. We went to visit my aunt in the United States, and we went to a department store (I forget which one). My aunt said she'd buy me a toy, so I headed right over to the action figure section looking for the Super Hero "guys". I didn't know about the new wave, so I was floored when I saw Hulk, Iron Man and the Falcon for the first time (I don't recall seeing any of the other new ones, or I surely would have picked up the Lizard). I don't remember my exact reasoning, but I think I picked the Falcon to go with my Captain America. Great figure, but mine ended up having two left arms! Ah, Mego's quality control at it's finest.

One of my top five all-time Megos. I always liked the character and thought Marvel underplayed him. They still do. I was never a fan of the head scuplt, though. I think the artist was watching a little too much 20,000 Dollar Pyramid at the time. He looks like Nipsey Russell.

Yeah, Mego screwed up the hands and had unintentional racial backlash. If I ever track dowm a nice, loose piece I'll replace the hands with Doc's brown or white hands.

Overall, great figure. Too bad he was Mego's token.
