Mego of the Day : Micky

Micky from Our Gang is today's Mego of the day. He'll have a connection with Tuesday and Wednesday's MOTD, figure it out on the Mego forum and win some stickers.

I never cared for this line ......
It was a good idea because little rascals were back in vogue in the 70s ... but personally, I never liked it.
I think because when I wanted to pretend --- I did not want to be a child...
    When you're a kid, you don't want to pretend you're a kid.

I also never liked the era this little rascals line was based on.

I want a Jackie Cooper, Weazer, Stymie and Chubsie Ubsie action figure

I would have been all over these as a kid, I watched Little Rascals religiously in the early seventies. Now, I can never get excited about them.

I was definitely down with the Spanky, Alfalfa, Micky version of Our Gang, but I, too, never had any interest in the figures. I think you nailed it, Mike, when you said as a kid you wanted to fantasize about being something other than a kid.

That said, I've always felt that this figure captured Micky's eyes pretty well. Its not Mego's best likeness, but its pretty good. I did just pick up the entire lot of carded figures in one, cheap, fell swoop so I was pretty happy.

I watched the Rascals on TBS in the afternoons in the 80s, mixed in with WB, MGM and Fleischer Popeye cartoons and Three Stooges shorts. I briefly owned Buckwheat a few years back and quickly sold him again. It's a nice line, but collector appeal seems pretty low.

Is the theme Mego figures based on actors/characters in trouble with the law?

I watched the show back in the late 70's, early 80's. Like other kids, we all loved it. Never wanted any of the figures and still don't. This line always made me think it was for a Barbie collector: a little girls toy line. Not a boys collector line.

                    Hey Brian!

Are you focusing on short figures this week? Is that connection?

I guess I am in the minority here, but I like the Our Gang line. I am still looking for a decent Orange Crate Car.

This is one line I've never owned or felt the desire to investigate. I admit total ignorance to the line. I'm not even sure how many figures there are in it.

Six actually. Darla is the hardest to get, at least she was for me. Plus they have a clubhouse playset, an orange crate car and a rowboat. The accessories are pretty cool and Mego did some decent work on them.

I also never understood why this line was made. Someone with pull must have really enjoyed this show as a kid.
