    Mego of the Day: Dinah-Mite

There is no better way to round out the week devoted to some of our favourite 8" ladies than to finish by paying tribute to the original, Mego Dinah-Mite.

Do you collect Dinah? Or do you consider it too close to Barbie? Having trouble finding a Dinah Outfit? Let us know in the Mego Forum.

    The original 8" diva!!!

Great choice. I didn't know about her until my adult collecting days, but she part of the collection now!

The first time I heard about this doll was my Mego commercials video:

"It's a great beach house, she can hardly wait for my doll named Dynah-Mite,
Here she is w/ Don her date, at the house of Dynah-Mite."
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Little Miss Sweetness herself. Obviously never had her as a kid since I don't have any sisters but I started collecting her and her stuff as an adult pretty quickly, along with Action Jackson. I have everything save for some of her harder to find outfits and a couple of pieces (poles and table) to her Campmobile.

I first encountered Dinah at a yard sale. I found this female Mego doll, but I had no idea who she was. At first I thought she was Supergirl (at that point, I had never owned an SG), but someone had put her in a black jumpsuit, whoever she was. I paid the dollar, and took her home. I did some research in the available toy books I had, and discovered she was a Dinah-Mite. I thought about using her for a custom, but I hated to deface a perfect figure, so I sold her on ebay for next to nothing, not knowing she was the Holy Grail of Dinah items, the Health Spa Dinah! It wasn't until I came here that I discovered the awesome truth.

When I first logged on teh interweb, I started buying Dinah stuff for my wife and it was pretty addictive, I had the beach house, ski lodge and campmobile by the end. I paired down my collection to buy the Logan's figures in 2002 and really only have a couple of Dinah's left. My wife has the folk singer and loves it, that's enough.

Aw, Chris. I feel your pain. Finding her Golden Pal horse and Don MIB were 2 of my better purchases. Dinah has some of the rarest mego pieces as a whole IMO.

She is pretty addictive. My Dinah goals now are to find lose figures to display outfits on, find the outfits I don't have and to get a mint and COMPLETE Campmobile. And to sponsor one or two of her cards.

I never knew of her as a little girl. It is too bad because I know I would have LOVED her. She has some cool playsets and great 70s outfits. I never liked Barbie, she was too big and wasn't poseable.

When I joined the MM - I got into the Dinah-craze. I now, have about 4-5 boxed Dinah-Mites and some of her outfits MOC. I also have about 8-10 loose figures with different outfits on.

I am always on the look out for outfits like "Up and Away", "Blazer Days", "Campus Coed" and "Happy Hippy".

I've always know who she was. My sister had her and her horse and bike too when we were kids. She still loves them today. I have few in my collection.

Didn't know about her until I came here. I'm sure one day I'll add her to my collection. More than likely I'll run across her in my searches for other Megos, not be able to find what I'm looking for and grab a Dinah instead.

She was one of mego's Best idea's. I think with more ads she may have lasted longer as she really is so much better than barbie in every way.
