This reminds me of the RM Robin in 1st issue window box, unless you've heard it from someone who worked at mego there is no concrete proof either way.

And Mego released Flash and Green Lantern according to some 35 year old memories from when we were 5 or 6 years old. So does that mean it was so?

I believe you that it was issued.
The box has been "recello'd" and there is a "photocopy patch" (whatever that means) on the insert, yet we can be completely sure the figure has never been switched out. Right.

Years and years ago, I found my way to the rec.toys.misc newsgroup. One of the things I eventually mentioned was my love of the Mego Spidervan I had when I was a kid. Gus Lopez politely called me on it. I was sure Mego made one, and he was sure they didn't. He had no knowledge of Empire, and it was several months before I figured out why I was confused. I *KNEW* I had one, but I was wrong.

Another scenario: My first WGSH was a boxed Robin. Over the years, I got other Robins. At some point, most of my figures went goodbye in a garage sale. I have no idea if the right Robin went back in the box, but somebody could easily have walked away with a boxed example from the original owner that wasn't right.

Yet another scenario: Years ago, I collected the clunky 12" Star Wars. There were times that I'd buy a figure just to steal his boots for a custom, and swap on another pair and resell the figure at a flea market or toy show. There were times that I'd end up with a bunch of boxes, and I'd Frankenstein together a figure or three for Toys for Tots.

Let's say some mom came across her kid's storage box of Megos in the 80's. She finds a pile of figures and some empty boxes. She matches the figure to the picture on the box, carefully reseals them, and sells them off. Years later, the buyer produces these complete with yellowed tape, and professes that they came from the original owner.

My point? Unless someone can go all CSI on one of these, some of these mysteries will always be speculation. When only a few examples are involved, it's pretty easy to poke plausible holes in any theory.

No disrespect to anyone's knowledge or memories intended.

That is something we all must face, the memory can cheat. Not to call anybody a liar (well, the "Flash was test marketed at Target" guy maybe) or say they aren't valid, we all have some pretty fuzzy memories sometimes.

I myself, swear I saw a Vulcan shuttle at Boot's chemists, even though Clayton backed this up for me. I'll wait until one shows up on ebay (and I empty my piggy bank to buy it) before I say "yeah it was made".

I based my entire 20 year search for the Logan's Run dolls based on a friends childhood memory, he was right but I'm not leery to say it's the paper to rock if you know what I mean.

Yeah, what it comes down to is that no one here can say with absolute certainty what did or didn't happen with these figures, none of us worked for Mego back in the day. We just have to go by educated guesses and theories, and foggy (and possibly inaccurate) memories. And I've learned over the years that with Mego, anything was possible. But if nothing else, these kinds of issues inspire spirited debate and conversation, and that helps make the hobby more interesting for us (for me anyway). Things would be a bit boring if we knew definite answers to all Mego related questions.

I appreciate the guys who have taken the time to solve so many of Mego's mysteries, and share that knowledge. Whether it's Brian and Heath on the foreign stuff, Dan and Benjamin on the packaging, Mike on the apes, Lou on the knockoffs....it's good to have a solid base for reference.

The fun of the web is, it can change. Four years ago, Laurie Halbrittter had this weird white haired Bruce Wayne. A year later, we discovered he was an obscure South African radio character none of us would have ever heard of.

I like that, you make your best, common sense theories until evidence comes along that either supports you or it blows away your entire argument.

True. Jet Jungle and the carded 8" Wonder Woman have to be 2 of the biggest Mego discoveries in the last 5 years. That's what so great about Mego itself and this place.

The Ledy's are another exapmple. Does the Ledy Joker exist? Who knows. But it's fun to theorize.

That would explain why the Bridge has the Docking Port.

Now we just need to wait for the '79 / '80 Toy Fair Display's to pop up.

I love the spirited debate and conversation as much as anybody. That's the best part of this forum. I have participated in these types of discussions as much as anyone the past 6 or 7 years. It just does not belong in someone's Marketplace thread.

That and the fact that the docking port was on the early designs for the bridge for TMP/Phase 2.

I love how some of the TMP toys reflect earlier designs that were scraped. One of the big examples is the South Bend Electronic Enterprise with a bridge dome that you can see came from early design sketches.

Did anyone notice that one of the boxed Urkos photographed has gloves ---the other has just cuffs? I have two examples of the boxed Urko. Both of mine are wearing the solider ape gloves. The photo of the back of the box on the MM page has Urko wearing gloves? Thoughts?
