Mego of the Day: Lt Uhura

Mego Spotlight today goes to communications officer Lt. Uhura from the Mego Star Trek line. No bridge crew is complete without the sole female figure in the line.

Did you have an Uhura as a kid?

Let us know at the Mego Forum.

Uhura was always one of my fav Mego's of all time.

Her sculpt is pretty lousy, but her uniform more then makes up for it.

    A great Mego, imo

I had the whole crew as a kid and since there was no Sulu or Chekov, she did a lot more in my adventures then she ever did on the TV show. Which brings the one flaw to light that this figure had. Could not hold a phaser. Otherwise, I agree with T1K that Mego did a great job on the costume considering that they could have done screened boots, etc.
        It's all good!

The only Trek figure I had as a kid was Spock, and I had no idea who he was! My dad tried to turn me on to Trek, but didn't succeed til I was 6 or 7.

I always thought Mego copped out of giving us Uhura with her "beehive" like hair-do, but I had forgotten that in Season 3 she had a hair style very similar to the one Mego made. So good job Mego! If only they'd tried to capture Nichols face a bit more.

I love this figure, she's adorable, despite it not looking too much like Nichelle Nichols. I have a lovely moc version and will soon have a nice repro to play with.

Never had her when I was young, the only female mego I had was Zira.

Traditionally I was more for guy figures, but like Type1Kirk mentioned, her uniform is beautiful! Almost as much as the other Federation figures, you can use her outfit customize so many landing party personnel.

Yes, the face could have been perhaps more exact, but compared to the other lines, it ranks pretty well. My thanks to Theressa for blessing me with my first one.

              Definitely a Mego highlight!

My only complaint is the body itself.
Lt Uhura had a wonderful behind and legs.
I mean a behind and legs to put any lady to shame.
The Mego figure just doesn't express that.
                It's just plain too skinny.

They should have made a special T-3 female body ...

I have an Uhura doll, though the previous owner gave her a slight haircut on one side. I'm looking forward to getting an EMCE w/ longer hair. No, she doesn't look like Nichelle Nichols, but she's still pretty and I have to give it to Mego for making her rather than Sulu or Chekov. I like Sulu and Chekov, but every line needs a female to get little girls into the act!

The last crew member I needed carded. Annoyingly she has no emblem. I must be a factory error as not even the grey backer is there.

My loose Uhura was another figure I freed from a card - Mmmmm... fresh Mego smell

Never had Trek as a kid but she was a must when I started collecting as an adult. I remember finding Trek figures at a bookstore in Atlanta around the same time I found the FF at Lionel Playworld. Bought the whole crew set MOC for probably $10-12 each at the time. Still have all of them.

My brother had Uhura as he was the sci fi guy in the family. I loved the bridge, so I played with her and the rest of the cerw (don't tell my brother ).

As an adult, this figures was actually given to me by a considerate member here. I mentioned how I had waited to geab a minty example because they were pretty easy to find. About a week later, one arrived in my mail. You gotta love this place!

                          Ahhh…

                          Lt Uhura

The ONLY female Mego I had as a kid. (I had 0.0% interest in DC nor Fantastic Four, and my next door neighbor had POTA, so I never saw the need to own my own)

As essential part of the crew, she was a must-have for my Bridge.

I remember whenever I left my Bridge playset to get juice, or use the bathroom, etc, when I returned my father had placed Uhura and whichever male figure he could grab into all sorts of adult positions. As a seven year old kid, of course, I had no idea…

With yesterday's MOTD being Daisy Duke, I was wondering if there a subconscious theme to this week's picks. Is Brian a fancy fan of the derrier? And who's next? I think Mada was booty-licious, but she's already been featured. Maybe Boss Hogg or the Penguin
