    Question about Repro Boxes

    hello all...
ok, so I buy a boxed Mego off ebay, and there is no disclosure that the box is a repro box... I get it, inspect it, and it just looks "too new" or something (mind you, I am not an expert on repro packaging)...so, I inquire to the seller, and he tells me "yes" it is a repro box
so, while I am inspecting it, what are the tell tale signs to know it is a reproduction (do you repro box makers do like Docmego and put a "DM" or code on it)...maybe it is there, and I am just missing it? naturally, when I compare it to a "real" box, the graphics, etc become "obvious", but if I didn't have one to compare it to, how do you know?

I some of the original boxes and some repro boxes as well. Depending on who you get them from some can be dead on,and some you see the differences.I noticed that the repro boxes are a little brighter in color, and some of the hero's pictures are a litttle off/burly.Some will put a on package in small letters that its a repro box and will not. Thats what I noticed there can be other opinions. Its very possible to sneek one by AFA graders from time to time.

One thing to look for is the color of the inside of the box (or the other side of the litho print). Repro boxes are usually white inside. Original boxes have that gray-brown cardboard color.

Another sign is the hole punch/tab if the back is shown. Most repro boxes don't show anything for it.

I seems many of he boxes I have seen are created by people without an artist background and the layouts/proportions are off along with the coloring.
I hear you, and that is fine and dandy if you are viewing in person...but, looking at sometimes small, and "bad" scans, I just wonder if there were some tale tell signs... I did notice the TM trademark was absent from the one I got, but the fact that I bought it as an "original" , whether intentionally deceived or an honest mistake, is what I am getting at

I think its the sellers responsibility to identify any repro parts, whether they be gloves or boxes. Sorry you got deceived.

So is this seller going to make good on it?

On my boxes you will find my mark on the bottom of the inside flap "A ReboxyourMego repro box" What auction was this, does it have a picture?

to answer another question, the seller is refunding me an agreed upon amount... he didn't claim to be an "expert" mego buyer/seller, so when I inquired about the box, I have to believe it was an honest mistake...but, that got me to thinking about others..

I know there are at least a few that do it and other vintage toy boxes. Just can't think of them now. Is the box a matte finish or glossy? Although I generally make sure my mark is on the boxes on the flap there are sometimes when I set up the art on a new template I forget to put it on. So there might be a slight possibility it's still mine although the mark is not on there.
