Mego of the Day: Plush King Kong

King Kong was a big get for mego in 1977 and that's why he's Mego of the day!

I don't know that I've ever seen this until this moment. He's all soft and cuddly but he's got a pretty nasty mean face, doesn't he?

I have never really looked at the Kong stuff either until just now and was surprised that all of those items were Mego's. I had the model kit and I remember at the store wanted the target game. I also remember seeing the drinking straw in stores. As for the plush, never saw him before. I wonder was it cheaper to make the plastic face as opposed to making the whole thing a plush?
      It's all good!

For some reason, I never thought he looked right ....
After a bit of staring just now, it dawned on me.
His skin and hair is brown, rather then the real Kong which has gray skin and black hair.
It gives this toy an almost teddy bear look ..
Perhaps Mego did that on purpose.

Yeah, he looks more like Grood from "Challenge of the Super Friends" to me, and he shouldn't have been brown either!

Still, a neat curiosity from Mego. Glad to see the non 8" stuff is getting the MOTD treatment!

Great choice, I love the plush Kongs. I didn't know Mego made these (or any Kong items) until I saw them listed in Bonavita's book. I'd like to have a set of all three sizes but am still missing the middle sized one. Here's a pic of mine so far:

This was probably advertised as a Teddy Bear in the back of Bully Magazine

I wouldn't mind owning the model. I look for it from time to time but it always seems to go higher than I want to pay.

Yeah, I had the twin tower model, too. Another one of those; "Whatever happened to that..." things I had. LOL!!
I've run into the same thing. Too high than I think it's worth. I'm willing to bet they were a lot cheaper before the towers fell.

I've got the small plush and the towers model. Love the Kong stuff. Even though the remake was bad, it's one of those things thatreally comes to mind when I think 70's
