Do you inventory your collection?? or How OCD are you??

How do you know what you have and what you need?

Do you keep track of repro parts vs original parts to be on the look out for?

Do you know who you bought/traded what from and how much you spent??

Do you know off the top of your head what figures or items you need for your collection? (I do but it changes all the time, if I find a deal for example.)

I keep a very basic spreadsheet of my figures, what is original or repro, and what parts it may need, and a general description of their condition. Also, figures to maybe upgrade later on. I should have kept track of price paid, but didn't. Probably a good thing.
I also try to keep one up to date of customs, either whos parts are on what figure, and basic notes on the creation process. Nothing complicated but it helps when I am looking for stuff online as far as what I need/can use.

Don't make me break out My Lists, Ha Ha Ha. I have a list for All My Collections especially for my MEGOS and DVDs. I also have Everything in my Apartment Organized. My friends call my Place The Museum.

I'm constantly Updating all of my Lists and I have Notebooks filled with Precious Information. I still have a Room in NM on my familys Ranch and I have everything in it organized. I know where everything in that room is. I've had this Friend for awhile. It's Fun.

      Hmmmm....

Right now I have a bunch of big plastic Tupperware doodads that I keep most of my figures in, organized by series. This includes stuff I'm working on. (So there's a big Star Wars one, filled with parts.) One day I'd like to have them all set up on shelves, organized by series. Like I did with my model kits. (I'd always wanted to see the entire progression of Gundams, right from the prototype RX-78 to the Fin Funnel.) But I gotta fix the roof before putting the shelves in.

I keep lists of stuff I'm looking for, and lists of things I'm working on. This includes parts I need. I don't worry about stuff I have since I have it already. I also keep a big book full of lists of things I want to build. This includes the occasional plan, sketch and diagram. (Snagged an old vehicle data sheet that has some pretty good line drawings for my Mego scale Iltis.) It also includes notes on stuff that's currently beyond my skill level, and notes on skills I'll need to make them. (Like vaccumn-forming, and embroidery.)

I have kept lists of most of my collections over the years. Mainly just for insurance purposes.
All my loose Megos are in plastic `zip lock` type bags at the moment. They are marked with name on the front (and repro parts if present) and an approximate value on the back. It's purely for my wifes benefit incase I drop dead tomorrow.

I'm really disorganized, I've bought the same figure twice and upgraded my pieces with things in the same or lessor condition.

I can always remember which figures I need but I'm having to write down T1 or T2, black hair vs. brown hair and stuff like that.

How do you know what you have and what you need?

99% of all my Mego's are on display, so I just look at my shelves and go "hmm, what do I want next ?"

Do you keep track of repro parts vs original parts to be on the look out for?

I basically never use repro parts (not including emblems) so it's pretty easy for me to keep track of everything... and when I sell, I can confidently sell as "all original".

Do you know who you bought/traded what from and how much you spent??

I remember about where 80% of my Mego's or Mego parts came from... I'm not worried if I forget someday ... As far as what I spent ---- many times i'd rather forget then remember

Do you know off the top of your head what figures or items you need for your collection? (I do but it changes all the time, if I find a deal for example.)

I have a "short list" I keep in my head .... It's those pieces I want first, so I don't need to write them down.

Everything is catalogued, for my insurance.
I had to make a detailed inventory, and because they had no idea why "some dolls" had any value beyond a couple of bucks, I spent weeks/months getting that together.
When you have a Van Gogh painting, sure, no prob. A first edition Shakespeare, no prob.
                  But toys?
My case went all to way up to the board of directors, before being accepted.

Some advice: print out, from Ebay, figures that have sold for a certain amount. If you have that same figure, they can compare and accept that a Rocket-firing Boba Fett is indeed worth $$$$$$. If you have multiple Ebay listings, you can convince them that action figures have a good value.

And yes, I know every figure in my collection. I display them all, so that makes it easier...

                    400th post!

This is an interesting thread. Its funny to read, because my girlfriend is REALLY into organizing and sounds similar to some of you.

As for myself, I guess my collection is small enough and somewhat complete enough, that I don't need to do inventory. I have only one mego, that needs work, a green arrow who is without any and all accessories. Otherwise, the figures I have are all good.

                    Chris

                      Inventoried and spreadsheet-ed!

I actually owe this to my girlfriend. When she moved in a few years back, she inventoried everything I owned. She said it was for insurance purposes, but I think she's just that OCD. I did, however, refuse to let her go through my toys (I was sure some would have "gone missing.") so I did set up a spreadsheet. I have to admit, I do like having it.

Despite that, I have bought a figure or two that I already owned.

Well, I recently went through my Mego WGSH and cataloged what parts I needed, and what parts were repro and needed to be replaced (I've gotten pickier since getting all the WGSH figures, minus the alter egos). But other than that, I don't keep very good track of what I have and don't have. I came across a 70s Robin cake decoration/pencil topper yesterday, and I had no idea I had one! I had one as a kid, but it was long gone. Still no clue where this came from!
