I can remember when the first one was discovered in 03 or 04. It was almost cruel. One of the coolest Mego things ever and there was only one! I wanted one so bad after seeing Mike's at Megocon that I redrew the design and had it professionally silkscreened because I never thought I ever had a chance of owning one. Loved that so much than I ended up (with some design help from Ron P and Bryan B) making horse covers for the entire knights line.
Eventually a few more originals were found but I still never thought I'd be fortunate enough to own one. However this year saw me score my biggest Mego grail item, and I finally have an original in my collection.
I think even if I decided to leave the hobby today and sell off all my stuff, I might still have to hang on to this. It's just too cool.
This is, hands down, far and away, running away from the field, no arguments from the Peanut Gallery, why, oh why, can I not have one, coolest Mego Accessory ever made. The only way to make this even cooler is to put the coolest Mego figure ever, Ivanhoe, astride in the saddle.
It is, quite simply, all that and a bag of chips.

I remember coming across this on German Ebay and thinking I had made an incredible discovery. The bid stayed really, really low for the first few days of the listing and then... Not only did the price soar, the lead bidder was a member here at the Museum. I did throw some bucks at it, but I knew I would ultimately lose out. And I did. But it at least it was to Mike so I didn't feel THAT bad.
I haven't seen any since, but I'm glad you finally got one Dave. And thanks for helping the rest of Mego world get at least a reproduction so we can share in the coolness.
I think it's way cool , too.
I never had any of the knights and to be honest I'm not sure I even recall them at all.
But recently I've been browsing thru ebay and came across a couple auctions of incomplete knights and decided to accessory check them in the museum, that's when I discovered this horse.
I think I want to collect the knights now but it's going to be hard to get complete ones and I don't care for repro stuff.
and yes, that Ivanhoe is cool and he was the one on ebay (twice).
While I have no doubt I will ever own an original I am very happy with Daves repro one. A very cool piece that should have been massed produced. It is surprising there was never a Knight's horse considering how many Mego actually did release. One of my favorite pics from MM08 is of all the Mego horses lined up side-by-side.
sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSH
Wouldn't you LOVE to see a boxed one of these? Man, what if they had hired Grey Morrow or someone like that to do an awesome jousting image?
Not until you mentioned it, but I am now, and it would have been truly breathtaking. *sigh*
