MOTD: Mad Monsters Type 2 Mummy

Mego of the Day is a type 2 version of the Mego "Horrible Mummy", who I don't think is horrible at all. Mummy is obviously, part of the Mego Mad Monsters Series, a fun line to collect IMO....

Mad Monsters (as well as all the legends) are another line I was introduced to once I found the Museum.

Honestly, I collected these because they were there and they were Mego. Even after I got them, they didn't do much for me at first. It was actually years later that I was re-organizing my shelves that I really started to look at them. Over time, they just started clicking with me and now I really like them. I appreciate the generic simplicity of them now.

I think the Mummy is the creepiest of the Mad Monsters. He really looks like a withered old man. Heck with his yellow skin he kind of looks like this guy:

The monsters are cool. Again, I never knew of their existence as a kid. My focus was solely on the Apes, WGSH and Trek.

The Mummy is the only monster I ever acquired. But I decided to donate him to the Mego Meet raffle. Hope he has a good home : )

Never knew about the mad monsters as a kid but they were the first line I started collecting after the WGSHs. The Mummy is my favorite! Don't ever unwrap this guy or you might never get him wrapped back right again!

Never had this line as a kid and don't remember seeing them in stores either. I probably learned about them through Toy Shop or catalogs. I need to get a set of T2's.

I remember getting Draclua at the Brimefield Flea Market in MA. Not sure where I got the others.

I grew up thinking the Lincoln Monsters were the Mego Monsters, so when I blindly bought a Frankenstein from Third Planet back in the early eighties, I was pretty surprised.

I eventually tracked a gentleman down who had access to parkdale novelty and he dols me a set of monsters (missing dracula). They really grew on me, especially the Mummy. I'm glad he's the easiest one to find packaged in the line.

I love the Mad Monsters. I had Mummy, Frankie and Wolfie as a kid, but never had Drac. I've still got their heads, a few body parts and some clothes. Someday I'd like to get these figues again.

I always wanted the mad monsters, so my heroes would have some bad guys

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

Wow, I'm surprised how many people never saw these as kids. Did they have limited distribution or something? I had a T1 Mummy as a kid, and thought he was cool then and still do (my cousins gave him to me for Christmas, they had a Dracula and a Frankenstein). I also remember seeing them in stores a couple times, but was disappointed by the solid boxes because I wanted to see what the Wolfman looked like (I never got to see a loose one until I was an adult).

I had all 4 as a kid. I have posted a pic of me on Christmas morning, holding up my Drac, but I can't find it right now (You can even see a Space:1999 Eagle in the background). The glow in the dark hands and eyes never got old when I was a kid. I loved that feature!

As an adult collector, I knew I had to ohave these again. For some reason, it took me a while to finally get a Frank.

I vaguely remember the mad monsters as a kid. I didn't have any, but I do like the line. Still need to pick up Frankie.

I don't remember them at all either. I think I first encountered them in Tomart's huge Guide to Action Figures.

I don't remember them either. I do remember seeing them at an antique show back in '94 or '95. A dealer had all of the Monsters and the Castle for sale along with the Knights line. Wish I had got into them back then.
