    MOTD: Bend N Flex Robin

Today we look at Bend N Flex Robin, one of Mego's lower price point creations, these figures generally sold for under one dollar and were a big hit.

There were three waves of Bend N Flex Heroes, some of which are very hard to find.

Ahh bendies. I know I had a couple of these, but I can only remember Batman clearly. They didn't get much love from me back in the day. Come to think of it, I never really did develop a liking for them.

Hmmmm....I dunno...."Bend N Flex Robin" sounds like a command from Batman that Frederic Wertham would have loved to include in his book

The only Bend N' Flex I had as a kid was Batman, and I got him in such an odd way it sounds made up. In 1984, when I was 9 years old, two school mates came to me early one school morning and handed me this odd, beat-up Batman bendie figure. They had been playing in a creek behind their houses and found it. They knew I was a big Batman fan, so they brought it to me.

I still have it in my Mego display today. It's such a nice gesture and odd story, I could never part with it. Got a beat-up Robin to go with it years later at an antique store.

            This brings back memories.

I was really sick ... Had a crazy bad cold/fever.
I didn't go to school for like 2 days.
My mom went shopping to pick up my medicine..
She came home and handed me a bag.
It was FILLED with WGSH Bendies.
I guess they sold them at the drug store.
            Perked me right up

            Loved 'em ever since.

Great hearing all the stories. I know these were the 'Not-Ready-For-8"-Players', always second fiddle to the WGSH line, but in a pinch, they were nice to have around.

Never had any, but they were cool to walk by when you're hunting down the WGSH/Trek store aisles.

Like Chris the only one I had as a kid was Batman (still have him). I have no idea when or where I got it from. I remember getting one of those mini-catalogs with a figure and it had the bendies shown on it. I always wanted the others but never got any more until I started collecting as a adult. I'm only missing Joker and Riddler now. If anyone has Robin on the card I'd love to talk to you.

This is my childhood Bendy Robin, lovingly restored.

On my fifth birthday, my Grandmother and Mother took me to Pinnochio's toys. Before we went to lunch at the Hearth restaurant, I was told to pick out a toy and we would come back after lunch and get my big present. So I grabbed a window boxed HUlk figure and ran to the checkout on the way there, I noticed a chain of bendy's hanging from the ceiling. I was told I could have one of those as well. Robin being my favourite as a kid was a natural.

I still have everything from that day, the Hearth closed a few years ago but I managed to go there for my 30th birthday.

That has to be one of the coolest stories I've ever heard.

You gotta love the bendies. Too bad they didn't go farther. A bendy Green Arrow would have been cool.

As a kid I liked the bendies to a point. I don't recall if I had any Mego Bendies but I know I had similar toys. What sucked about them was there was only so much "bending" they would do before the wire would break. Then you had "floppy arm" or leg syndrome and they wouldn't do anything after that.
I do remember having a bendy Gumby & Pokey and used to drive them around in my GIJoe Jeep.
If I was to collect any Mego ones it would probably only be the POTA and only if I found them cheap somewhere. I'm not actively pursuing them.

I have vague memories of either having these or fondeling them at a TG&Y...They are always tempting to me.

I have no memory of these whatsoever. Which, being the huge Batman and superfriends fan I was, makes no sense to me unless I just had no interest in bendies or they weren't available here. It's possible I had to choose and chose something else like WGSH or something.

I think the closest thing I had to a bendy was Evel Knievel. I sure do like the look of that Robin though.
