The toys for Battlestar Galactica weren't as cool as the Toys for Buck Rogers. I would definately have to go with Buck Rogers. It was a way Better TV show. I Loved Wilma Deering.

I know Mattel was kicking themselves for not getting the Star Wars license, but they COULD have at least made a Viper for the action figures. I understand the copyright wars going on between 20th and Universal, but THAT was irritating. OR an Apollo with a warrior jacket would have been good, but from talking to Richard Hatch back in '98, they approached him for an action figure but he turned it down..

(Well, that's his story... I personally don't think actors had much say in corporate merchandising decisions..)

Yes, the toys did suck a bit...

i always felt vipers were far closer inspired by actual fighters of the time (look at a f-4 phantom or the t-38's that nasa used as chase planes) than X wings

They should have done a crossover where Galactica discovers the Buck Rogers Earth. I bet there must be a ton of fan fiction out there with that premise, though.

Loved both shows. I watch Buck every morning on the Space Channel while I get ready to go to work. Today was the space vampire! I loved Hawk. What I hate about the later shows was they watered Hawk down and he was such a cool character. They have explored him more. Not to mention what they did to poor Wilma who started off as this hardass and ended up a "chick in a skirt". Oh well, I still love it.

BSG though. I loved the whole premise. The Lords of Cobol and so on. The whole religion of the Colonials. Adama and Apollo and eve Boxy. Starbuck was almost as cool as Han Solo and Athena. Mmmmmm.... Athena. The Cylons were so cool. Had decent toys been made then I would have been all over them. I got my Adama, Starbuck, Cylon, Ovion, Imperious Leader and Daggit like everyone else but the toys were mostly lame. Mom even got me the big Cylon and Colonial Warrior. At least the Cylon looked mostly right. The Warrior stunk. I hated him. lol.

    Anybody could beat the Cylons.
    Just drop-kick them.
You know, they couldn't get up from a lying position

If Twiki were to get a weapons upgrade, he'd so kick the Cylons' metal butts....

To be honest, I never saw either show as a Star Wars rip-off. If you go back to the Buster Crabbe Buck and Flash, one could say one was a rip-off of the other because they looked similar, but the story lines were different. I always looked at these two shows as getting a chance because of Star Wars, but I never watched either because of Star Wars. I just liked them
I never really understood the Star Wars rip-off theories. Was it because John Dykstra did the effects? Glen Larson came up with the concept for the show in the 60s.

Season-2 of Buck was horrrible but watchable .....

    1. Fake Twiki
    2. Searcher itself
    3. Wilma as a stewardess
    4. That damn snotty robot
    5. No Dr Huer
    6. Buck seemed to not care anymore

But, I still like Season-2 of Buck WAY BETTER then Battlestar Galactica.

Some worth seeing episodes of Buck Season-2 (in no order)

    Time of the Hawk 1 & 2
    Testimony of a Traitor
    The Dorian Secret
    Mark of the Saurian
    The Hand of Goral

    Hmmmm....

When I was a kid I HATED Buck Rogers. It seemed kinda... typical to me; and I was a big fan of the original comics, which the show was nothing like. Having seen it in recent years I can see why folks would like it; it's got a weird cartoon vibe to it, and while the writing and characters aren't particularly deep; they were pretty slickly put together.

But I always liked the original Galactica. (Endless stock scenes and all....) Mostly 'cos there was so much more going in. Not just with the Galactica, but the idea of all the straggler colonies they ran into along the way, and the Cylons, and the mysticism. And the Cylons. LOVED the Cylons.... especially the idea that they were some kind of cyborg lizard thingies. And the characters. (I felt sorry for Boomer, who was always pulled reluctantly into Starbuck's schemes...)

And the slow Cylons? I thought they would overwhelm you with numbers. Any time the heroes came under attack they'd try a quick escape before getting swarmed by Cylons who were apparently "crawling all over the place." Even as a kid I chalked the small numbers up to expensive suits; but the IDEA was that there were zillions of 'em.

    >Which was worse? G1980 or Buck's 2nd year...?

    Galactica 1980. Seriously.... "Space Scouts?"

    *shudder*
