    Fanboys

Set in 1998, the story tells of a group of friends who, anxious for the premiere of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, decide to break into Skywalker Ranch and steal an early print of the film. The reason: One of them is suffering from cancer and wishes to see the film before his death. A road trip begins as the friends encounter William Shatner, obsessed Trekkies, and bikers who make them undress for water

Fanboys (2008 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After George Lucas was given an advanced screening of the rough cut of the film, he enjoyed it and gave it his "stamp of approval" and even offered for original Star Wars sounds to be used in the movie. He then contacted the filmmakers with his authorization to use Star Wars sound effects. Filmmaker and Star Wars fan Kevin Smith also viewed an early version of the film and asked for and was allowed a cameo in the film.

This one is a MUST see flick for sure...

Not Lucas, Weinstein the distributor of this movie has pretty much buried it, reediting it to make it more of a broader comedy. You see, he knows we will like it but what's important is if a 14 year girl will like it.

Like a lot of niche comedies, I worry this will suffer a horrible recut, a weekend in two theatres and then be sent to the video bin next to MSY3K the movie and Run, Ronnie, Run!

                Hiya folks.

There was a big write in grassrootsy sort of campaign to keep the script intact for this a while back. It actually had some effect on the final cut and the real world fanboys voted to keep the cancer storyline included. Ernie (author) has a note about it on his blog:

I'm very excited to see this happen after 12 or so years of effort.

                Kudos to the Fanboys!!

Well that's encouraging, the last I had checked into it, it had been bad news.

That's great news....hopefully it will get the reaction it deserves from the screening and convince the wallet holders to release it as intended.

Kristen Bell, of "Veronica Mars and "Heroes" fame is in it and at some point
appears dressed in Leia's slave girl bikini. I'm curious to see that.

The premise of the movie is interesting. Hopefully it will turn up.
