New For November. Best Science Fiction Made For Television Movie from 1965 to 1990

Some ground rules. It has to be over an hour in length and released on Television in the USA between 1965 and 1990. This includes the major networks and PBS and the nationally available cable networks that existed then. Judges decisions are as always final and prizes awarded will be thoroughly imaginary.
I know Buck Rogers in the 25th Century had some theater releases somewhere but it totally counts for this category. It’s a tough call between Buck and BSG TOS but Buck has Wilma in that flight suit and that is just enough for the win.

Great miniseries. I wasn’t sure whether to include miniseries or not explicitly since it seemed like somehow a different art form than either a movie or a series. It’s like asking if Steve Austin is a sci fi property or a superhero property. Sort of both really. I did like how they tied together the different Mars short stories into mainly one person’s story.

You risk Salem's Lot on this slippery slope.

I know. Is two episodes a miniseries? Or is it just a long movie with a 22 hr intermission? Wasn’t Martian Chronicles five episodes? I can’t remember. That’s why I felt conflicted on the miniseries thing. I stand by Buck tho for my vote. Let’s hear some more. Any fans of V or original BSG? What are some others that haven’t been heard of in awhile. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank from PBS with Raul Julia? The original Six Million Dollar Man movie that was retconned to his first two episodes? Interestingly it had Darren McGavin as the government agent in charge of handling Steve instead of Richard Anderson’s character Oscar Goldman. Man From Atlantis?

And it’s two post series movies. With Thor and Daredevil. Definitely on that SciFi Superhero border

                  Does Anyone remember SALVAGE 1?

With Andy Griffith? On ABC in the 1980's?

There was the pilot Movie of the Week! 😁

Then came the tv series. A interesting concept, Junkmen going to the moon and then being asked by NASA to help rescue some Astronauts.

In fact I can see someone doing a remake today. 🤔

I loved Salvage1 with the vulture space patch. The tires as the ends of the landing legs. The Texaco tanker as the fuel tank and the cement mixer as the capsule. In a way, it was the fictional version of the Yankee Clipper rocket

                      And...

How can anyone leave out "The Man From Atlantis"? Yes, you had the pilot made for tv film and then the underrated TV series. Love Patrick Duffy!! He's the best!!

"V" if we are allowing a mini-series or the Battlestar Galactica 1978 pilot?

I have to bring up my favorite series from within that time frame...Space:1999, of course. Fantastic special effects, model work, and make up. Some really good stories (usually in the first year) and even some horror elements in that first year.

Then again, there’s Kolchak, The Nightstalker (which had both supernatural and science fiction elements in its plots). Another really good series.
