The Top Ten MisFired Sci Fi Shows of the Nineties

I don't really have any nostalgia for any of these shows but I thought number 1 was held in higher regard. I didn't care for it but it seemed to have a following.

WOW - Some really BAD stuff there. I had no idea Seaquest DSV got as lame as it did.

And Number 2 Night Man. . . .whoa. . .what were TVexecs smoking in the 90's?

Thanks Brian. . . that was intriguing to go over.

    ROAR. . . I guess Heath doesn't get a nomination for that one - May he R.I.P.

I remember briefly watching, and passing on most of these, although I never heard of Roar until after Ledger's death. Many of these seem to be "TV versions" of recent films of the time. That rarely seems to work.

I watched MANTIS a good deal back in the day, eventually I just couldn't care. I tried hard to get into Seaquest and Earth 2 but they did nothing for me.

I remember Space Rangers motto was "if Star Trek is Classical Music, then we're Rock n Roll!" Yeah, right. Although I liked seeing bullets used in the future.

Oh yeah. . .I remember ROAR. It was filmed at the Warner Brothers MovieWorld Studios about 45 mins drive from where I live. For some reason it is hard to take seriously something like this made just down the road from you. They also made a 90's Mission Impossible TV series here too. Weird seeing American actors, and voices, and a show. . .making out like it is set in Russia, and you rocognise the places in the background as home. . . it just doesn't work for you.

              Try living in Toronto!

Oh High Park is Central Park? Yeah Right. Oh, Washington DC looks a lot like Queen St. Is that TTC bus in Chicago? I didn't know I went to college in Boston. The Cinesphere at Ontario Place is also a moonbase? Whatever.

And the biggest giveway it was made in Toronto is actor Julian Richings. My pal Sean and him got their start on the same indie film, now they run into each all the time!

                        Hmmmm....

Other than Briscoe; I don't think ANY of the 90's sci-fi shows were any good. They all seemed like watered down versions of much older, and better shows.

And yes, I include the X-Files and Babylon-5 in that statement!

How in the heck did I miss this thread?

About ROAR: Yes, Heath Ledger did get his start in this brilliant but cancelled series, and what's more, my favorite person SHAUN CASSIDY discovered him. Eight of the thirteen eps aired here in the states, the other 5 abroad, (I have all of them). One of the main reasons the show flopped is b/c against Shaun's advice, Fox chose to make this a summer replacement series. Shaun knew that wouldn't work, b/c it wasn't lightheardted enough to be a summer series. And it also didn't help that it was up against the more lighthearted Xena and Hercules. But this series was released on DVD for those of you who wanna do more than 10 seconds of research. (Sorry Brian.)

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
