yeah, spock looks good. But even for him, it's more of an attitude, same for kirk. The look isn't everything--we'll see if they can get it right.

Seriously...is it that difficult to act as an expressionless and humorless Vulcan?

          You wouldnt think so, but....

JJ: "OK Zach, the horrible space monster just ate your lunch..now ............REACT!"

          Quinto: does absolutely nothing.

          JJ: "Cut. Print. Perfect Zacho!"

Director: "Ok Lenny, the horrible space monster just ate your lunch....andddddd.....GO!

          Nimoy: Raises eyebrow.." Fascinating."

Director: " Cut, print and lets roll. Great work Spocko!"

Thats what I'm talking about! You can deadpan the roll, or play it with some kinda...heart. Nimoy added this to the character. Look at the Tuvok character for example...no life there...just deadpan reactions. No depth, nothing.

Well Tuvok was 100% Vulcan what did you expect?

                  Vulcan's are very snotty ..........

Look at Sarek, The Vulcan on TMP, Tuvok, Savik and the chick from Enterprise .....
They're not just peices of wood ... they all have the same thing going ... they act like they hate everyone that isn't Vulcan (subtly, of course)... with the exception of only Surak who seemed like a neice guy

Spock has a little bit of this to a point ....
I think acting Vulcan is tougher then one would think.
                  Vulcan's are defintely not robots.

The way a script is written/produced/directed will have something to do with it, too. I'm sure Tim Russ would have come off warmer if they had built it into the show. There were some moments where he really shined, but Voyager's character development never grew as much as TNG or TOS.

Also, not to be too geek-y, but if this movie takes place when Kirk and Spock first meet. Shouldn't Spock be wearing the gold tunic without the black collar like in the "cage" episode?
                    It's all good!

If you really wanna get technical ........

Spock should have very bad make-up ... and not afraid to make a big smile when he see's "singing flowers"

Yes. . .I eluded to the Shirt earlier. . .find the fault. . .what is wrong with this picture!

In Fact. . .if you look at "The Cage" and "The Menagerie", the colars differ in each time period. . . AND SPOCK was at this early stage exploring his human heritage and feeling emotions etc, smiling. . . you are absolutely correct Mike. . . .but then. . .we end up like the Batman threads. We have to give them some licence. . . and if it is the shirt with black colar that is going to give the name brand recognition to the general public. . . lets go with it. . .and we will probably prefer it too.

I can't wait to see this actually!

According to the rumor mill, the film ends with the crew during the now historic 5 year mission...I suppose that its possible that photo is from the middle to end of that era?....which completely nullifies the need to add a new young cast.....I'm getting a headache just thinking about it

Well, the real test of how much Pine embodies Kirk will be if in a fight he does a flying leg kick, rips or tears his tunic and has no chest hairlol

oh, and then wipe a very small trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth in a tough guy way.
