When I first started watching Troughton episodes back in the early 80's I used to hate Jamie .....
Weird, but after a time I started to like him more and more ...
He's a loudmouth with a heart of gold .....
He's probably the best friend the Doctor ever had--- and i'm counting ALL the Doctors -

Jamie like Leela was at best uneducated but bright...both showed great curiosity and many of the things that the Doctor showed them. Jamie came from a time when a small percentage of the population could read and write...his world consisted of farming and war...these being the only things he knew. Yes he was brash and loud...but that was the way of things when he came from.....stupid...I dunno...by our standards yes but he showed inginuity, bravery, curiosity and the ability to absorb stuff far in excess of his times technology.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.
Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....

Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.Comment

I liked Jamie from the start! Being mostly Scottish he and Mr Scott on Trek were among my Favorite characters. i always liked how jaime was ready to fight and defend for the Doctor and his friends. He was the muscle when the Doctor or others brains couldn't get them out of a situation. For being so far from his home and century he always tried to grasp what was going on and keep up. Not to mention hes one of the Longest serving companions in Who history!"Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of DoomComment

I think that, considering how alien everything must have been to him, Jamie did exceptionally well. He was brave and resourceful. Definitely one of my favourite companions....
