Was Eric Roberts the "worst Master ever" ?

I keep reading on Doctor Who forums how bad everyone hates Eric Roberts as the Master.

Me personally, I think he did a good job .....

He was certainly the meanest Master of all time.

The whole idea of being the Master is being EVIL ... Eric Roberts was EVIL.

Anthony was a good Master, but I always thought he was just a clone of Roger.

Eric took the role and made it something different .......
    Eric's Master was SCARY

After all, why should all Masters act like Roger ?

Did Colin act like Peter ?
Did Ecceston act like Patrick ?
    answer-- not at all.

I can't help but think the Who community is always giving Eric a raw deal because he's the only American Master.

To be honest, I'm not all that fond of the new master. Too pumped-up, too much of a joker, and not enough cool and collected. Simply an Anti-Doctor.
Derek Jacobi was fantastic, for all his five minutes of truly showing himself as The Master. I wish they could have held on to him...

If the Doctors personality can change with each regeneration then why cant the Masters? Also you have to figure the Master used up his normal regenerations. What ever he is doing to prolong his life now has to be somewhat unstable for him.

Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
      Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I didn't mind him as the Master, Ainley got way, way too campy for my tastes.

I thought he did a good job as the Master.

Ainley was good at the beginning but the character was turned into a pantomime villain. Delgado is still the best, he oozed evil.

You know, I kind of think the opposite .......

Bare in mind, I love Roger and will always consider him THE definitive Master --- but I never thought he was pure Evil .......

I never thought of him as a rabid psychopath ...

In a way, those qualities almost make Roger tame compared to Roberts or even Simm.

I think Roger was the most believable of all the Masters ....
Rog always played it straight and never went over the top.

Delgado was always charmingly evil...lol...he did display a lot of very dismissive evil acts such as dispensing people with his tissue compresser....he was always charming to Jo and the Doctor and came across more as coniving and scheming rather than outright evil...although he did go for it in the Daemons.

I think the fault lie with the script. They kill the Master and then he shown as some wierd ectoplasm snake. Then he takes the body of the ambulance driver played by Eric Roberts. They dress him up and have him act like the Terminator for part of the show. They just didn't settle on how they wanted him to portray the Master wheras Paul McGann settled into character nicely.
