There are quite a few ex-pats both from Canada and the US that made a decent living playing "murcans" in the UK. Ed Bishop pops up in lots of places (including Bond films) and William Hootkins who played "Porkins" in Star Wars was in tons of cool genre films like Raiders, Flash Gordon and Batman.

Hootkins turned up in Poirot, too.

That's quite a testimony to his character, because I've heard those horror stories of meeting an actor or celebrity one has admired and discovering that they are

I was surprised in checking IMDb at all that I had seen him in but not realized.

ah too bad shane was a lovely fella ,had a warmth about him that made you feel like you'd been pals for years
i used to see him a couple of times a year when stalling out on the memorabilia circuit in the uk

he had no airs or graces ,and i never saw him with a entourage ,and if hes wasn't booked by the organisers hed just book a table and drive down and set up ,ive had the pleasure of being next table and lugging his stuff in for him a couple of times

gave me a insight into his life and the true nature of celebrity through our conversations ,last time i saw him to talk to ,his son or son in law had just got him half a days work as the guy at the gotham city water station in batman beyond,sitting for half a day in a minimal set ,alone but for a minimal camera crew ,saying a couple of lines , no entourage ,no craft services no limo ,just a guy driving to work saying his stuff and driving home ,a real peek behind the curtain moment for me

, not sure if that was his last job or not but the nature of the shows changed shortly after that ,went more corporate and talent based ,as in flavor of the month micro celebrities on the payroll ,and the casuals like ingrid pitt ,shane ,caroline munro,even dave prowse for a while , who if not booked would just book a table themselves and pitch up books ,posters magazines and 8 x 10s in hand and sign away ,disappeared unless ocasinaly they got thrown a bone by the organisers and got booked on to fill out the list ,so sadly that was the last time i saw him ,he was a smashing bloke and i'm sad to hear of his passing

Wow, you seen Barry Morse in real life ?

Yeah, I was about 16 I'd say. I got the courage to approach him after a few blocks, I think he really appreciated me stopping him. Friendly as all get out and smiling the whole time. I remember when i said "Excuse me are you Barry Morse?" he blurted out "GUILTY!" and shook my hand enthusiastically.

Morse was sort of like the reverse, (he was British BTW) he resided in Canada (I ran into him on Yonge Street once in 1987) and also worked a lot in the US.

To this day I don't know if his real speaking voice was Canadian American or British
