Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
        Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I loved the original series, but being from the USA, I never had the PLEASURE of having to wait to see a DW cliff-hanger conclusion (the stories were mostly played together here in one shot) ...
Because of that, cliff-hangers were never as interesting as in the UK because we saw what happened a minute later.

I think the most annoying sort of cliffhanger we have is the one at the moment.
Doctor Who was cancelled for a week so the BBC could show The Eurovision
            Song Contest

I seem to recall several cliffhangers while watching Doctor Who in the Seventies. I think my local PBS station used to show only one episode every Saturday (at least, for a few years before doing the "Whovies" thing), IIRC....Since they started with Tom Baker, I'd have to say...It was most of the "Genesis of the Daleks" cliffhangers (the very ones you mentioned) that made me long for the next episode.

The end of Utopia, Sontaran Stragegem and The Empty Child were good. Some of the cliffhangers from Genesis, Morbius, Weng Chiang, Pyramids from mars and Zygons episodes were really good as well.

The best thing was going to school on a monday and acting out what might happen in the playground...somehow there would always be daleks involved (easy to impersonate)even if the story had nothing to do with them...lol

The Belgian entry didn't make it to the final.
