okay, that is just rumor at this point. although I have serious concerns about the direction of the show now, I do agree with Brian, just give it a shot and see how it is. maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised. I'm not holding my breath, but I am curious about it

I just found out more about the new season, and it sounds like it is going to be way worse than I thought. It sounds like the show is going to be total garbage. It makes me so very sad, since I've been such a big fan for so long.
Educational kids show...?

My biggest problem is having a female Doctor in the series current time line... Dr Who is a dude

The Doctor is a shape shifting alien. Time Lords have the ability to change their age, appearance and gender. Obvious example Master to Missy.

Not really comparable to James Bond even if you consider James Bond as just a title or code name.

I don't have anything against strong smart female leads whatsoever

I would accept a female James Bond much quicker because James Bond is just a title and not an actual person.

As for the JNT 80's talk, it's no secret JNT hated the series - especially by the mid 80's and if he did do a female Dr Who I believe it would have been to sabotage it.

I want to say for the record that if I'm reading you right, it can be quite frustrating to be a supportive comicbook/fantasy nerd, and very right-wing in many social dynamics, and hear that certain people are convinced all criticism in this case (or other cases of gender or race or other "political" stuff) is 100 percent about someone's political leanings.

I imagine some more Left-leaning nerds would feel just as bad but for "mirror" reasons.

Kinda like how I'm defending Gunn right now... but don't agree with his politics at all.

I had no intention to disappoint anyone. And I said I'd wait and until I'd seen the new season before deciding.
