Just watched Star Trek's The Mark Of Gideon this morning on TV Land.

You know, even though I think it's one of the STUPIDEST episodes EVER, I still like it

I've watched that episode once, it's in my "Empath" pile.

Clunkers like these are why I don't own boxed sets of Trek.

Seasons 1 and 2 are pretty clunker free. Season 3...well, let's just say you have to look harder for the good ones.

I would say this is a good idea gone wrong. Problem is no one on the writing staff thought it through. There are several other science fiction avenues the show could have taken.

Was this a race that was immortal? Or they just lived so long they faced overpopulation? In either case why didn't they just start spreading out amongst the stars? They didn't have to voluntarily end their lives. They could sit out eternity by colonizing the galaxy. Also, being humans I think they would be of interest to the Federation. If they have something in them which allows them to live so long and their bodies resist disease that would be a benefit to all the humanoid speces accross the galaxy, ( Similar to The Omega Glory). Also where they engineered this way? There is the notion of the race that seeded the galaxy with many humanoid races, mentioned in The Paradise Syndrome.

Instead we have this bottle episode where they can save money by having Kirk and this chick run around empty sets. Probably this was an episode designed to save money.

Just say no to season three. Never understood why they could build a dupe that could fool Kirk, but couldn't create their own solution to their dilemma.

I don't remember this one much (which is a pretty damning testament in its own right). I've gotten season 1 and will have season 2 pretty soon. Season 3? That one can wait a while. It suffers from Frieberger (sp?) syndrome a little too much.
