    Happy Breakaway Day!

I need to pop in a DVD as soon s I got home. It may not be the best sci-fi show ever, but it has stuck with me all these years.

    Enjoy!

I picked up several of the 2 disc sets that had been released on DVZD. have maybe half the series. I loved it as a kid but it is a little hokey to watch now. it is fun to pop one in now and then and reminisce

I'm surprised Space 1999 hasn't been remade yet. This is one show where I think a rebooted modern version would work well, with more dramatic writing like SciFi did with Battlestar Galactica.

they would have to really revamp the whole concept. it's really kind of a goofy idea. I think it was Arthur C Clark who said it was the most preposterous thing he had ever heard of. still it was a fun show and I enjoyed it when it originally aired. it's a pure 70's cheese fest.

plus, it was a British production right? sometimes the British shows don't really carry over to the Yanks as well as you might think

I've always loved the show since its debut. For several years now I've been watching Breakaway on September 13th.

Always wondered what a third season would look like --- considering the vast difference between S1 and 2

do you think S2 was better than S1? it's been a while since I watched but I did like the uniform changes and jackets in S2

I liked S2 because of the inclusions of Maya, Tony and faster paced stories ...

Did not like the new cheapo control room and CHiP's style incidental music

I enjoyed both seasons of 1999. The first slower paced and philosophical...the second more action-oriented.

But you are right, the concept is just too silly. No amount of nuclear explosions is going to break the orbit of a celestial body the size of the moon. If anything, it would break a chunk off...but the debris would still stay in orbit...basically making a mini asteroid belt.

Aside from Arthur C Clark...Issac Asimov and Harlan Ellison considered the notion that the Moon could be blown out of orbit, and then cross interstellar distances in weeks, the most ludicrous thing they'd ever heard of.

Also, if they remake it, well, kiss good-bye the 1999 name...as we are past that date already, lol.

But as I said...the show was cool...have no problems with it whatsoever...and I did have a slight crush on Maya...

I heard rumors of a re-make and the idea was to change the mechanism for the Moon's breakaway to some kind of alien device deep within the moon that the humans triggered accidently. some kind of wormhole/warping device that would help to explain how the moon could travel such distances shown in the show, and tie into some of the nuttier conspiracy theories about a hollow or artificial moon. Space 2099!

The UFO and 1999 remake rumours float around but I honestly have little to no faith in them. Last I heard Joshua Jackson was going to be Ed Straker.

The kind of colourful programming that the Anderson's produced would get all lost in a "reboot" IMO.

                              ^ For sure

Remakes nowadays are either too gritty compared to the original or making it the kind of movie Will Farrell would star in.

                              There is no happy medium.

If they ever did remake 1999 or UFO it would be unrecognizable to the people that actually want to see it.
