    Happy Birthday STAR TREK!

Trekkies Rejoice! I was 2 months old to the day that "The Man Trap" aired for the first time. Although I imagine it must have been pretty cool seeing this on television for the very first time. Maybe some of MM's older member can share what that was like. Anyway, I'm thrilled this TV show and all its incarnations have endured for 50 years! It changed the face of science fiction back then and continues to work it's magic on audiences today. Have a slice of cake and raise your glasses in a toast! To STAR TREK!

As a side note, I wish Gene Rodenberry, Leonard Nimoy, DeForrest Kelley and James Doohan could have lived to see this day.

I'll join in and wish my favorite science-fiction series a Happy Bithday, as well. I'm sure that Gene Roddenberry never imagined that, some 50 years later, the show that he pitched initially as a "Wagon Train" to the stars would become, and remain, a pivotal and cultural touchstone for so many people worldwide. So here's to another fifty, TREK; by the time your 100th rolls around, people may well be watching you from real starships and perhaps even colonies on Mars,
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

God, I love me some Trek. I can't find the words to express that magical time in high school, when I would stay up until midnight and watch each episode on WPIX. Just devouring all that Trek goodness, with my Star Trek Compendium at my side, for the first time. Live Long and Prosper!

Here are a few pics of me and my family getting our Trek on over the years.

Just watched my favorite episode The Doomsday Machine last night to celebrate.

My big Star Trek wish is they someday redo the crappy CGI special effect versions with frame for frame original to CGI new effects.

Basically making it look like it's the old effects but just clearer and sharper... (like they did with Next Gen)

"The Doomsday Machine" is probably my fave TOS episode as well, Mikey. Lots of tension and drama. Love to see what one of the Doomsday Machines would do to an Imperial Star Destroyer or even the Death Star. I'll like watch that episode later on tonight followed up by my next two faves "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "City on the Edge of Forever."

I was wallowing in Trek last month gearing up for our Super Mates 50th episode, and despite re-watching many episodes, and re-reading many books, I found I didn't really need to. I know Trek (at least classic Trek) at my very core. In all honesty it is my favorite TV show of all time (and one of, if not THE favorite movie series), because I can watch it at any age, unironically, and still get the message the creators were trying to deliver. It's timeless and timely at the same time. Smart science fiction, wrapped in some fun and engaging action adventure, with some deft social commentary thrown in.

Happy Birthday Star Trek! May the wind be at your back!

The BBC America will be showing a marathon of Trek episodes already getting underway as I type, think its going for 48 hours straight.

I know, right? Proud to be so.

I only wish I had pix from my first con back in '87 when bringing home that 12 inch Mego TMP Kirk was the purchase of a lifetime.

Thanks! My favorite is my daughter's Uhura costume. The Playmates Tricorder was about 3/4 scale, which fit her perfectly.

I've been re-watching all the episodes on Blu-Ray in brodcast order.

Just finished A Taste of Armaggedon and watched Galalio Seven a couple of nights ago.

These reminded me how the Federation diplomats always seem to be complete tool-bags. Makes you wonder how they ever negotiated any peace treaties.
