    Netflix Stranger Things

Just finished season 1 last night. I loved it!!! Who else is watching it? I found out about the show from my FaceBook feed when Stephen King recommended it.

I couldn't get into Wayward Pines season 2, but I loved season 1. Stranger Things filled that sci-fi vibe for me.

My family and I watched it all in the same night! We liked it a lot. Definitely had the 80's vibe. I also thought those kids did a really good job.

Dang, there's batting threads here. Anyway to combine them Mods?

Anyone else watching this? It's a real amalgam of all kinds of 80's era movies, with a great deal of Stephen King and Stephen Spielberg in the mix, while being very unique unto itself. Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine are both wonderfully disturbed and creepy in their own ways in this show.

Love it... Posted some reasons why in the horror forum.

I did a search on Stranger Things before i created the thread. Maybe i overlooked it, but nothing came up and i did manually look under the Horror/Monster thread . Oh, well, i tried anyway. Good to know many others here enjoyed the series as much as myself. I hope season 2 is just as solid.

You're thread came first I think. But the other one got action before yours.

I just finished it up last night. I was really enjoying it in the early episodes, but by the midway point it's fairly easy to see how everything is going to play out. For me, the last half was more about powering through because I'd already committed almost three hours to it. I think it would have been better served as a Netflix original movie, even a two or three parter, rather than an eight episode series.

I see. That's how it goes I guess. This next part has nothing to do with the ST or either thread about ST, but sometimes I get the distinct impression I'm not liked by some people here on the board, which is a shame because I've never done anyone wrong and do my best to be friendly and positive others. I'm probably all up in my head or internalizing too much--but I'm basing that on my experience with Facebook and here. One member here abruptly unfriended me without any incident and this was after we were liking ones another's posts and what not. Oh, well.

My apologies, I simply didn't see this thread in Scifi. Totally missed it when I posted one in horror (because I thought the show leaned that direction). Completely my bad. Would have posted in this thread instead, had I seen it.

Honestly no need to be dramatic or make a thing about it. I personally don't see any problems with multiple threads talking about the same thing, happens every so often around here with little consequence. Not a big deal. I'm completely fine with merging the threads, but I also understand that the mods are a little short staffed at the moment. We'll make do and muddle through this together. Peace! 8)

Anyone else love seeing Winona Ryder back in such a meaty role? I was a huge fan of hers back in the day. She's showing some wonderful range here, from her seeming mental breakdown, to almost utter defeat, to her finally standing up for herself, and then that raw determination that got her through to the end.

Some interesting teases at the end for where they might be going with Season 2. Really hoping we get to see more of what Matthew Modine's character was all about.. he seemed a little under-utilized.

Love that the show is wearing all its influences on its sleeve as well. From Carrie, to E.T., Goonies, Stand By Me, Evil Dead and whatever other 80's pastiche they can toss in that blender.

I'm not familiar with the Duffer Brothers other work. I'll need to check out Hidden.

^ No, no, It's all good. Again, I would stress the thoughts I have on people's perception of me from my earlier statement wasn't about you or anyone else following along on either of our threads. It's me expressing more about the awkwardness of social grace on Facebook (or the folks ignoring me on threads when I always compliment them) than anything else. I'm sure the root issue is my being overly sensitive and sharing too much (TMI.)

Yeah, i also thought WR did a tremendous job with her role. I appreciated all the John Carpenter nods. Thought the child actors were good too. WR probably had a lot of work since A Scanner Darkly, but that's the project of hers that springs to my mind from which I think I saw her last. Used to be she was a crush of mine in my youth too.

I haven't seen Hidden yet. Cool, I'll have to check it out.

For what it's worth most of my personal Facebook misunderstandings have been in the context of a complete absence of malice. Your circumstance could well be the same. I had no idea how personally someone could take having a friend request not be accepted until I learned the hard way on multiple occasions. I only use FP for Mego Museum administration now. I have exactly 2 friends. (Just like in real life!) They need a 'It's not you, it's me' button for FB.

As for your dupe threads, combining them makes them unintelligible half the time. I am more aggressive with the bees than the mosquitoes.

Funny, cuz Ryder was one of the weaker points for me. Much preferred the show when she wasn't on the screen. I've always felt she over-acted a bit though, so there's that.

Loved the kids, especially Toothless. It was a fun ride for sure, and I'm definitely up for more seasons.
