Makes it seem much more horror-y than it was. And what's up with that egg at the beginning? Totally forgot about this old ad. Love it. -
An interesting point to the trailer is that the "whale song"music is also used in at least one of the trailers to "Prometheus." Although a lot of "Alien" fans are polarized on that movie, it did also provide a link to the Alien-verse in the trailer.

I agree. I love trailers that just give you a taste, while featuring content unique to the trailer.
I thought the Rogue One Teaser aped the warning beacon from the ALIEN trailer by playing the Rebel Blockade Runner Alarm repeatedly, to great effect.Comment

Alien was a Horror film at release. Sci-Fi at that time was heady stuff - Silent Running, Boy and His Dog, etc... Alien only became a Sci-Fi film with Aliens and the "expanded universe". Hill sold it to Fox as "Jaws in Space" not as anything relative to Star Wars or other space projects. The deeper Alien sci-fi elements were dropped in, mainly by Ridley, during development. Hill added the Ash-Android/Mother surprise way late.
That's the full theatrical trailer. The original teaser ends on the egg cracking. My favorite is the TV trailer. You get the same opening but with a quintessential 70's voiceover guy.Comment
