    QUATERMASS recommendations please

I've been aware of Quatermass - mostly through the documentaries on my Doctor Who DVDs - but I really don't know much about the property beyond that.

I just purchased the Penguin editions of Quatermass Experiment and Quatermass II off of eBay, looking forward to reading those when they arrive.

My understanding is that there's 2 versions of the Quatermass stories on film - the BBC mimi-series and the Hammer films.

I saw recently that the Hammer version of the Quatermass Experiment is available here in the U.S. on Bluray. I'm not sure what the availability is on the BBC serials.

So in your opinion, which of the film versions are better?

all 3 hammer films are great.the black and white tv series is good too they are on youtube the first series has episodes missing due to them been lost/wiped.then there is a colour tv series with john mills and that is pretty good too.the black and white tv series has more detail in it as it was about 6 30 mins episodes compared to the 90 mins film.

they are both entertaining but try to see the tv stuff for free if you can. the movies are worth a purchase. if you have a region free player, look at buying them from amazon uk. they are cheaper, and with the pound on a downward spiral, they'll get cheaper. the only one i found disappointing was the the final Quatermass from 1979. the rest are all pretty compelling. andrew keir is the best actor in the role. hope that helps.
