Question for Classic Movie Star Trek fans

The scene in Star Trek 6 where the shapeshifter gets zapped always bugged me.

If you were McCoy, wouldn't you be wondering if the zapped Kirk might have been the real Kirk ?

It seems Bones just takes it for granted there's no way the real Kirk can die

Because Kirk "always knew, he'd die alone. ". McCoy was there with him, so he was never alone.

Pay closer attention, Kirk has leg chains on, she doesn't.

What bothers me more, is in the scene where McCoy says go on without me, I don't think Shatner was even there. We hear his voice, sounds like a voice-over to me, but never see is face under the hood. Shat was notorious for not being there for his co-stars in many cases.

And yet when they killed him off in "Generations",he wasn't alone. Picard was there. Go figure.

Yeah, right? They did ignore the line. I hated seeing Kirk's death, but in my mind, I reconciled it as "alone" meant not with Bones and Spock. Picard wasn't his homeboy.

Great sequence in a great movie at a time when I needed convincing how close in entertainment value I saw the TOS and TNG casts... and (somewhat) ironic considering this was the "last" TOS outing.

The only part about that sequence that really bugs me is Bones' REALLY dumb "HUH" hard stare at Marta as he leans in on her after she turned into Kirk. That was just to get him headbutted and out of the fight, but it makes McCoy look REALLY stupid, and he's not. Heck, his old flame turned out to be a shapeshifting salt vampire! This is nothing new to this man!
