Paul Darrow had bought the rights to it at one point, but the damned thing got stuck in development hell, and never got out. I think he sold them back, and was rather ticked off that he couldn't get it off the ground.

You really can't put a show like that on TV today; you'd have to find qualified writers, actors, producers, etc. and let's face it; most production companies are kind of lazy today.

They all seem to want big explosions, implied sex, heroes that are even more messed up in the head than the B7 crew, and sloppy writing.

If they could get Joss Whedon behind it, it might have a shot. He wrote for Doctor Who, after all, as well as Buffy: the Vampire Slayer.

I disagree, I think the time for such a show is now more than ever. Scripted drama is having a real renaissance these days and there would be an audience for this.

Well, I know that a lot of us senior fans (GAWD! We're all so OLD NOW!) would love to see this get taken up again.

Just as long as they don't retread over old ground, it would be fine.

I for one would like to see Avon pass the torch to a bunch of protégés that he's been training, kind of like Professor X.

Not sure if producers nowadays know how to make a show fun but not be an outright comedy.

When Fred Frieberger died I think he took the genre with him.

That would be a great approach. My worry would be that the new show would be like the new Battlestar Galactica (or much of recent "dark and adult" genre programs), where every character just grits their teeth and growls all the time so we can see how serious and hard they're acting while the writers pile dark plot points on joyless stories.

B7 may have been dark at times, but there was plenty of humor at the same time.

If they could stay true to the original formula, lots of snark with caring behind it, two Alpha males that butt heads because each is SO convinced that they are right, a thief who is a little bit of a coward, but knows how to roar when he has to.

As long as they expand the roles of the female characters and the time allotted to one hour. Or were they already an hour in length? I have to rewatch my own episodes.

                I do have one question.

Why does each episode have 2 beginnings ?

Is this a Brit thing or a unique B7 thing ?

I'd like to see a sequel, with the same actors.
I'd have most of the characters survive the battle (just stunned), and it's many years later. Avon and "friends" are serving a lifetime sentence in a Federation prison. And then, the opportunity of an escape presents itself.
Add a couple of younger cast members for the running and fighting, and you're off!

As for the original series, they broke so many rules. It's as if they'd let Captain Kirk disappear after series two, then kill him in series four, along with the whole Enterprise crew.
B7 had real guts, doing away with goody-two-shoes writing, and getting down and dirty. I love it.

There are the original openings and the new CGI openings.

Looking back at the show as a whole I would not have gotten rid of the Liberator.

                      Every show needs an "Enterprise"

Besides being the ultimate bling, it gave a reason for Severan not to kill the crew straight out.

She wanted Orac too, but not as much as time went on.

The new ship was too Star Warzy imo --- looked like a Star Destroyer.

One that had been rebuilt and upgraded to death, with a semi senile and subservient AI, piloted by Dorian Grey.

The Liberator was a Cadillac, and the Scorpio was a Chevy Chevette.

The Liberator was indeed a great ship. As there were more of them, we could see one again, right?

I do like Slave's cynical identity, though. He was a real character.

There was a recent episode I was watching where Avon and Villa were alone on a ship that was heading for burnup unless the weight of a man was ejected.

Seeing Avon "hunting" for Villa made me think, omg there's no other leading man "good guy" character in the world like this

Garek from DS9 had potential, but he was nowhere near being a leading character.

Why they didn't simply LAND the stupid thing always bothered me.

That the ep I was talking about, one of my favorites. It's Kirk thinking "should I throw Bones out the airlock?"
Only B7 would be this edgy and explore the boundaries of what a leading man could do...
