First Image of the New Power Rangers movie

    Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

Now I have no dog in this, I was in my mid 20s when Power Rangers came to the US and even before that, I never liked the Fiveman shows.

BUT the funniest thing I've read all year has been someone saying "Elizabeth Banks doesn't have the range to play Rita, she's one of the most iconic villains of all time!"

Oh yeah, Banks can't jump up and down while someone dubs her voice, sure.

This should have been Thor's Enchantress.

The Repulsa part comes from her aversion to soap. Ewww.

Yeah, it looks the re-design plan for Rita was turn her into the Borg Queen and then dump sewage on her. Not even remotely recognizable to the original character.

I was looking forward to this because I do have a fondness for the original Mighty Morphin' era of the Power Rangers. But, after seeing this, I'm done.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

If someone said this was a modernized version of Rose's alter-ego The Thorn, I'd say, "Cool!"

                For PR, not so much.

I like Banks so I'm glad she has a job. My kids were nuts for the Rangers for years and will still watch them on occasion. I have a great nostalgia mainly for my kids passion for them, but they mean nothing to me personally.

But I agree, they seemed to have missed the boat with this design.

They didn't just miss the boat, they are not even in the same ocean.

I think Banks demonstrated some really great acting chops by the time the third Hunger Games movie rolled around. She's a fantastic comedic actor and did a great initial job of playing the comic relief character for laughs... but then gave us a much more nuanced performance for what should have been a fairly superficial character. We actually really liked and sympathized with her character a great deal by the end, stripped of her former glory and position (more than we should have, given the limitations of the material she was given to work with).

They just showed their outfits. I think this movie is going to bomb. And hard.
