NEW "Planet of the Apes" CD available

A few weeks ago, I received this information from another group I belong to and thought people here might be interested in this... This is the information regarding a newly re-recorded version of the original "Planet of the Apes" soundtrack... Here's the information I received in a post from that other group:

NEW CD!! Music Written For The Film PLANET OF THE APES

To honor the 48th anniversary of the release of Arthur P. Jacobs production of Franklin J. Schaffner's film PLANET OF THE APES, Pithikos Entertainment is proud to announce the release of a New Digital Recording of Jerry Goldsmith's landmark score!

This project, more than two years in the making, is a logical extension of the work author, musician and recording engineer John O'Callaghan did for the acclaimed book Simians & Serialism. While in no way a substitute for the original recording conducted by Jerry Goldsmith and performed by Hollywood's finest musicians, this new Digital Recording makes this legendary score come alive again. It demonstrates for the listener that Goldsmith's serial compositions are more than mere "movie music" and deserve a place among the defining works of twentieth century orchestral repertoire.

    A 24-bit / 88.2kHz Full Digital Recording

Meticulous reconstruction of the Orchestrations written by Jerry Goldsmith, Arthur Morton and Herbert W. Spencer done by John O'Callaghan

Features Percussion Instruments from the Emil Richards Collection at L.A. Percussion Rentals—the same, unique instruments used in the original recording sessions

All music cues performed to the same tempo as the original performance

3 Bonus Tracks—including the famously deleted piccolo part in the “Main Title” that director Franklin J. Schaffner asked Goldsmith to change

A hybrid recording that seamlessly mixes "live" instrumental performances with VST instruments

12-page, full color booklet with an essay on the album's production, photos of Emil Richards' unique percussion instruments in action and more!

An exciting CD for any fan of Jerry Goldsmith, Planet of the Apes or twentieth century serialism, be sure to purchase your copy today while supplies last!

I've already purchased this CD and can say the sound is good on it... Nothing really added to it/different about it other than it's been newly (and digitally) recorded... If you already have the original "POTA" soundtrack, this isn't a necessity, but still cool nonetheless... Shipping was quick and he's easy to deal with...

I've picked up all the soundtracks, starting with the harder-to-find ones, I wanted to finish with the best one. So the score of the first movie is the only one I don't have on CD yet.

Well, this one would cover you as far as the scores go, but as mentioned, it's not the true original recording but rather a remake/rerecord... If you want the original soundtrack for "PLANET", the one I'd suggest buying is the one on the Varese Sarabande label (VSD-5848): It's the complete original score *and* it also includes a suite of music from "ESCAPE"...

I think I'll go for the complete original score first. It's what Jerry would have wanted.
And I'm sure that once I've bought that, the very next month they'll release the "Ultimate POTA soundtrack CD" with many extra cues...
