    Blake's 7 Poised for a remake

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Blake's 7 poised for Sky comeback

I really like the original series, it was the original grim and gritty sci fi show and despite it's "dollar store" production value, it was very entertaining. It'd be nice to see a remake but I'm not sure I want to see a handsome, thin Blake trampsing around.

        Comedy!?!?!?!?!*gasp*

Blakes 7 was the BBC's sort'a answer to a Star Wars TV show in the late 1970's. A band of freedom fighters, who don't always share the same goals, attempt to fight and overthrow the corrupt, oppressive, Orwellian style Earth government, The Federation. Blakes 7 highlighted the fact that these would be "heroes" could be as flawed as the government they were trying to overthrow. New Galactica and Babylon 5 picked up a trick or 2 from B7.

Paul Darrow, Avon of the original show, was involved with some group trying to bring it back but left over a year ago or more over "creative differences."
Given the political climate these days and the post X-Files tv landscape, a new Blakes 7 would probably thrive on TV.

Yeah, it's no comedy, although some of the production values were funny. You can oversee that, it's well written and acted.

Not bad. It's definitely NOT a comedy. (Are you thinking "Red Dwarf?") In the last episode everyone dies; and if I remember correctly you get a slow motion view of the final crew members being gunned down.

Thinkin' on it; THIS is one of the few shows that I think would be well suited for the current "GRRRR I'm angry!!" style of character writing. While I still think the new Galactica really misses the mark, that style would be perfect for Blake's 7.

There are deaths virtually every season on this show and the fact that the title character also dissapears through most of season 3 and 4 was a great decision meaning you actually thought the situations the crew were in could kill them.
It was originally developed by Terry Nation (Daleks and Survivors amongst others) to be a Star Trek like show (i.e. crew and ship ), with gritty realism. It has survived in various forms ...Paul Darrow wrote a novel about Avon's earlier life..there have been a few radio and audio adventures...and there was a comic strip in a monthly mag around about the time of season 4.
It would be good to bring it back with Avon surviving the final massacre and creating a new crew (which was the idea behind Darrow's revamp).

                  You never saw Avon die.

Our own Otherdude has some great Mego Blake's 7 customs (along with some other cool stuff) on his web-site.

I always liked this show, even the cheapie budget didnt detract from the great story lines. Wish PBS (or anybody else for that matter) would run it again though....havent seen it on tv here since the early to mid nineties.

There is also apparently going to be a 30th anniversary radio show on bbc 7.

I only ever saw 2 episodes of this series, but I really liked it and was enthralled quickly. I would sure like to see more.

This is a show I've always wanted to see but never got around to getting any episodes. I remember tracking down some VHS tapes online and then not buying them for some reason. I've always heard good stuff about it.
