Part of me gets it and it's certainly part of the show history but I honestly think the audience can accept "new showrunner, familiar Doctor"
I take awhile to bond with each doctor. I'd love to see Capaldi stay with it for one more season.

I hope Capaldi sticks with it for at least one season with the new guy. He's going to have as many seasons as Smith now, anyway, but I'd like to see him do one more beyond that.

They really should keep Capaldi one more season. If they do get a new Doctor, what will happen if the series tanks? If it were me,I'd keep things the way they are and try to squeeze out one more season and get my footing as showrunner.

Fully agree that Capaldi should stick around past Moffat's departure. It's when the show is "breaking in" a new showrunner that familiar faces provide a stable environment for the fanbase. Capaldi may not have a choice as far as leaving (perhaps it's in their contracts that they only last three seasons), but if the choice is his, hopefully he will decide to stay with the show. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Capaldi was an even bigger fan of Doctor Who than Tennant was when he took over the role so it would make sense for him to help lead the new direction of the show...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I have high hopes for it's continued success

The same thing happened in the transition from Troughton to Pertwee and if anything the show got better (depending on who you ask)
