Independence Day is obviously not highbrow sci-fi...but it's one of those flicks that I never get tired of watching. It's just a fun flick, never boring...

Exactly...ID4 was all about fun, damn logic, lol. Like you said, keep it close to the original on that aspect. I don't want a "serious" Prometheus version here...

couldn't agree more. I always said this movie was just a fun movie and people should not worry about the logic. I am all in for the sequel as well. too bad Wil Smith did not want to be part of it

I remember just the thrill of the audience with that first one... It came when anticipation for the return of Star Wars was coming. People were just ready to cheer for the good guys again. I remember painting a model kit of the Alien Exoskeleton, then selling him on eBay.

The first movie was fun. Before I started tearing away plots.

I can enjoy the second movie for fun as well.

After watching years of independent 'smart' films or serious movies, a gold old fashioned mainstream blockbuster really works. As long as it's own self contained thing and not one of the larger intellectual properties, that has a huge story history.

As long as the writers don't take up half the movie explaining what happened during the 20 year period between films, I'm interested. Save that story for a graphic novel.

The first movie was terrible on every level, imo. Do we seriously need another 'alien invasion' movie? Let alone a sequel from a moronic movie? That movie was over-hyped by the studio. The 'second-coming' of Star Wars it was not.
