    Westworld talk

    Just watched Westworld AGAIN

Seen it a million times including new in the theatre back in the day.

I have a few questions ( notwithstanding suspension of disbelief)

For the Westworld owners, is it REALLY economical to build hundreds of state of the art robots and have a staff of dozens maintain them rather than just hire bit extra actors that could do the same thing ? ... which is basically antagonize the guests and then lose the gun battle ?

Also, would love to see Mike Rowe do a Dirty Jobs show about the people who clean the sex robots every night.

Well, I suppose you save money by not paying robots a salary, not to mention that the robots would be willing to do whatever is called from them without any argument. They don't age, they don't get pregnant, they don't quit, they don't even take bathroom and cigarette breaks.

Sure you have to pay for a staff to maintain them, but with actors you would have to hire doctors, surgeons, dentists, and probably therapists. You would have to pay agents.

Not sure how the math would all pan out, but it seems you would save money in the long run with robots...and certainly save yourself some aggravation.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

If you just get rid of the robots and use actors it turns from Westworld to Fantasy Island.

Yeah, what he said. Plus, the don't need food, lodging and can't sue you or go on strike if they don't like the conditions.

Once perfected, androids would become pretty cheap, low cost enough for a corporation to buy them with partial government funding by way of tax deals.

          Multiple manufacturers will compete,

Special discount on used military androids.

Plus, building materials will become cheaper when Earth gets minerals from outer space, moons, comets, planets (from atmospheres, oceans & mountains) and floating rocks.

Well, the thing about Westworld is it was a VR park before VR was really thought of. The idea is that the park seemed real to the patrons, which is why the guns actually shoot bullets. Also they have real swords and stuff in Medieval World. Boffers just wouldn't cut it. I am sure if Crichton had thought of VR, he would have dropped the robots and used that because it makes more sense. It still could have been dangerous with a Matrix-esque "you mind makes it real" or similar nonsense.
