Buck Rogers In the 25th Century

Thinking a feature film reboot is long overdue.

If it was camp like the late 70's film i'd be all for it.

With a retro 1930s aesthetic? It would rock!

I would guess that the new cast could be:

          (main three)

          Henry Cavill
          Olivia Wilde
          Malin Åkerman

Absolutely. A new version of Buck Rogers would be great. Been hoping for it for years. Whether they give it a retro vibe or not, it's long overdue.

I also feel the same about Flash Gordon. Time for a new big screen adventure with a substantial budget.

I would love to see George Lucas do Flash Gordon as he originally intended. (let the Lucas-bashing begin now) But it would be almost poetic that after selling Star Wars to Disney that he be able to make the film he originally set out to do, but couldn't because he couldn't get the rights.

Hmmm....I thought that was just a rumor.

If George can get the rights to do either Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers, I'd be happy to spend the money on the ticket.

Both stories need definite updating. I liked the Flash Gordon movie in the early 80's, and loved the Buck Rogers series, but I especially loved the old black and white serials of FG.

There will never be another Buster Crabbe; he was the definitive Flash for me. Sam Jones was nice to look at, but he wasn't really the right one for the part. Timothy Dalton rocked as Prince Barin, though.

George himself has gone on record saying it was his original intent in several interviews. I doubt he's given it a second thought since, sadly, but I am just dreaming out loud.

Too bad he didn't get the chance to tackle it when he was younger.

It is, but then we wouldn't have gotten Star Wars.

Yeah, it worked out well for us (and Lucas himself) that he couldn't secure the rights to Flash Gordon all those years ago.

they need to do the source material justice though. that crap that ran on Scfi a few years back was just terrible and nothing like Flash Gordon. I know there had been a web series for Buck Rogers with Gil Gerard and Erin Grey as his parents but I only ever saw the first episode. a big budget update of the 70's series would be so cool, as long as they don't constantly do the gratuitous shots of Bucks naked hairy chest, LOL

That's basically what sold the show back then!

But you're right, we can all do with less gratuitous semi-nudity on TV.

The one version of FG that I really fell in love with was the animated version. I just loved Bob Ridgely's voice as Flash; he really seemed to capture the character. The later seasons with that little dragon were just stupid; if only that little dragon had been more like Lockheed from X-Men. He would have been a lot funnier, and more likeable.

The people behind Buck Rogers Begins only managed to film a portion of the intended pilot and a trailer featuring Buck's starfighter before they ran out of funds which is too bad. I liked what I saw. Looked really faithful to the 1930's and 40's stuff.
