Bring Back MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 Campaign

    Hello, People of Earth. Welcome!
    I'm Joel Hodgson.

Once upon a time, I created a television series called MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. We debuted on Minneapolis' KTMA local access cable on Thanksgiving Day 1988, as the world was in the final throes of Teddy Ruxpin-mania. That was almost thirty years ago, but for some reason, people still seem to like the show – it’s a mitzvah!

Our show has had a long, strange run. Across a UHF channel, a cable network, cancellation, a feature film, then another cable network, the show lasted for 12 years, two generations of hosts and puppeteers, and a total of 197 episodes before we got canceled again "for good" in 1999. Sadly, it was just as Prince predicted.

But maybe that's not where it all ends.

Starting today, we finally get a chance to bring back MST3K.

wish the article would tell you who else is involved from the old cast. Given the Rifftrax/Cinematic Titanic split of the former MSTies, I'd assume that not all the staff will be involved. If Kevin Murphy is out as Tom Servo, it won't be the same, he was a lot better than Weinstein.

When I spoke to Joel about this a year or so ago, he told me it was a new cast. I'm really excited about this although I'm sorry the "Rack Toy Rewards" angle seems to have been abandoned and I totally dropped the ball on the Mego figure incentive.

Those who he hopes to get involved include past cast members and writers, as well as a brand new cast that includes a fresh host as well as a new mad scientist and new voices for famous wise-cracking robots Tom Servo and Crow. “Basically, I’m trying to blend the old with the new,” says Hodgson. “Mystery Science Theater has already refreshed itself once with a completely new cast, so I think it deserves to do that again. The original cast is going to be invited back to write, produce, and do cameos as their mad science characters, and then there’s a new cast with new talent.”

Great news, I'm in! I wish I had the cash to get a reward of being on the show or a producer, that would be so awesome.

Wow, when I first checked out the site a few hours ago, it was at around $40,000, now it's at almost half a million. I think it's safe to say this will happen!

I'm still in but I understand that sentiment. Thankfully, rifftrax exists and it's great.

I used to LOVE this show! It took a movie, no matter how bad, and tore it to teeny little pieces! And let's face it, these movies were all contenders for the Golden Turkey awards! Some of them were SO bad, I'm surprised that they were actually released! Others weren't all that bad, but suffered from shoddy direction or production values, or bad acting or a combination of all of the above.

The new show sounds interesting, provided that the new talent actually HAS talent!

I feel like a bad person for saying this, but I am unmoved by the casting announcements. I'm not much of a Felicity Day fan or the guy from the Nerdist who is going to be the host. I hated the Mike/Joel wars, but not I feel like I'm going down the same path.

I don't know the guy from the nerdist but I don't get the Felicia Day casting, she's popular but I wouldn't put her in the same category of Mary Jo Pehl or Trace.

I would have preferred lesser known comics.
