New official Star Wars novel adaption. Only Han shoots again.

I've been reading the new novelization of Star Wars called Star Wars A New Hope: The Princess, The Scoundrel and the Farm Boy.

It's a new adaption of the story of New Hope with things like added details about what was happening to Leia during her capture before her rescue from the Death Star. Of particular interest to classic trilogy fans is the cantina scene with Greedo. Greedo doesn't miss Han at point blank range as Han inhumanly jerks his neck to miss the shot like in the Special Editions. Only Han shoots just like the original theatrical version.

This is important because the new Star Wars novels are all official canon.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Cool. I heard someone found one of the original screenplay drafts that stated Han shoots first.

I never understood why Lucas felt a need to mess with this scene. Even the first time I saw the film in 1977 it seemed clear that Greedo intended to kill Solo at the table. Han Solo acted in self defense. Nice to know the "new official" adaptation put things back the way they should be.

A few other places Greedo doesn't shoot Han and miss.

The original 1976 novel Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker by George Lucas (Ghost written by Alan Dean Foster)
        The 1977 Marvel comics adaption
The original theatrical version of SW.
The Art of Star Wars from 1979 which includes the complete script of the film by George Lucas.
The NPR Radio Drama of SW from 1981 by Brian Daley

So, I think it's pretty safe to say the only place Greedo actually shoots and misses Han Solo at point blank range is in the Special Editions.

Greedo had to be a first class idiot to miss Solo at that range! Maybe someday the Special Edition will be fixed back to the original version.

Excellent. Good to see multiple media to check all the facts.

Lucas even wore the "Han shot first" t-shirt.

The making of Special Edition Star Wars is like changing the truth of history.

I am fond of some Director's cut or extended cut editions, but they don't ruin the feel of the movie. (or alter characters, plus the theater versions are common and available. Even Blade Runner sells the dubbed versions in a set) Of course, in the case of Blade Runner, I like 1997 and Final Cut better, even though it does erase some film history. It's a really hard choice to accept changes or not. It is a shame though that the movie experience is vastly different to those who never saw the original versions.

The NPR dramas are now classified as 'Legend' due to the amount of additional story material that wasn't featured in the films.
