    80's TV Series on DVD

This just got reported that Shout Factory is going to release Manimal and Automan on DVD in America on Nov 10.

this is great news for me, I liked both shows growing up in the 80's and watched them. The only thing that is missing now is Nightman (Manimal guest stared in one episode) and the other 80's series The Highwayman.

    FUN FACT:
During production Manimal in the episode "Breath Of Dragon" Walter Nebicher from Automan can be seen walking outside a Chinese restaurant. Both Manimal and Automan were filmed back-to-back with the same scene, at a different angle, appearing in an episode of Automan. While the Nightman episode Hitchhiker was adapted from the TV series "The Highwayman", from the episode "The Hitchhiker". Most of the original footage from that episode was reused for this one.

This does make for the the first TV Universe connecting Nightman, Manimal, Automan and The Highwayman together.

Wow!! This certainly throws me back into my late years as a teenager and my early years as an adult! May have to purchase these as a keepsake from that era. Probably also pretty good for a chuckle these days...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Saw the star of Automan as the ringmaster of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus a few years back. I watched both of these shows during their very, very short runs. I had no recall that Melody Anderson was a regular on Manimal!

It's about time. I think Manimal came out in Europe years ago. Not sure what the big holdup was. I liked that show a lot when it originally aired. Even as a kid, I knew it was ridiculous, but I never missed an episode and was disappointed when it got prematurely canned. However, Automan did nothing for me, I'm afraid.

Still lots of short-lived '70s/'80s sci-fi shows that need to be officially released on DVD. Fantastic Journey, A Man Called Sloane, The Phoenix, The Powers of Matthew Star, etc.

As a kid, I wanted to like these shows but they were SO BAD I hated them even tho I would watch every time they were on. Haha! Man, I might check one out on Netflix or Youtube, but there's no way I'm paying for them!

I'd like to see The Wizard (Is that what it was called? David Rappaport as an inventor?) again. I remember thinking that show was ok, but it might have been horrible, I don't know...

I always thought Manimal was awesome...it had really, really good makeup FX for a TV series. The premise is very cool...it was very ambitious for the time.

Chuck Wagner (Automan) is a pretty talented actor and singer, with some solid stage credits, but he never really "made it" on TV or in the movies.
                Hugh H. Davis

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.

That time in the 80's was always a TV wasteland for me.

At the time I think the only show I watched was Ripley's Believe it or Not --- and that was only to drool over Holly Palance

I loved this show--I never understood the bad rap it got. It became a stereotype, like "Aquaman is lame" superhero jokes, which is BS, too. Verrry pleased at the dvd release.

Neat. I remember watching both of those shows.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Watched both Automan and Manimal when they were originally broadcast. They weren't masterpieces by any means, but they were solid, fun entertainment.

That bothers me that license holders took so long to put these things out.

When DVDs came out, everything previous should have been available.

I am still waiting for the official version of the 80's Bring 'Em Back Alive.

(and a fantasy show that had Sid Haig in)

Yeah, about time US got Automan, and Manimal,as they've both been out in the UK for years! Also waiting for Bring'em Back Alive, and Spider-Man tv series with Nicholas Hammond,Highwayman, and a few others. Would've thought all the 70's and 80's tv shows would've be on dvd ages ago, lol.

Which fantasy show with Sid Haig are you waiting for? Fantasy Island? Jason of Star Command? They're already out. He's been in a lot of things though,so you might mean something else.
