Last night I was nursing a cold so I stayed in and planned on watching TCM's Charlton Heston Night. They aired a special from 1998 where Robert Osborne (TCM host) interviewed Chuck Heston. At the beginning of the show they showed still shots from almost all of Heston's films. The one they showed for Planet of the Apes was this one:
I thought it was an odd choice considering that it never appeared in the movie. I've never seen this image before. Notice that Lt. Stewart is alive and Taylor, Landon, and Dodge do not have their beards. I suppose this was a cut scene from before the space flight. I read somewhere that the original plan was for all 4 astronauts to survive the trip and this could have been a scene from after the crash but Heston has stated in interviews that he convinced the director that the men should have beards because of the passage of time. So it's unlikely that this was a cut post-crash scene.
Probably just a publicity still.
Anyone else?
