Ever watch old Sci Fi movies and secretly root for the Aliens ?

Was just watching The Thing From Another World and it struck me how many times Earthmen handled the situation from the start so badly in MANY classic sci fi films.

Back in the day these people were hero's to moviegoers, but today most people would regard them as shoot first/ask questions last gung-ho bunglers.

Earth vs the Flying saucers is another movie that comes to mind.

    What do you think ?

The Thing in my opinion was the good guy, he was taken from his crashed ship, attacked by dogs,
lost his arm, got set on fire and then later electrocuted. Then became the Marshall of Dodge city and had to deal
with a couple of dopey deputies, a fussy doctor, outlaws, drunks, wild woman and Indians.

All kidding aside, if you really think about it, the monster or creatures were the ones that were picked on first
King Kong, Frankenstein, the Mummy, CFTBL I'm sure there's more.

That was pretty much the point of "E.T." Also, it was hard not to sympathise with "The Man Who Fell To Earth," while "Brother From Another Planet" showed just how messed up Earthlings can be. Naturally, I always root for the Klingons in every Star Trek movie, even if they are killing off the whiny son of Kirk.

Now... those B movies from the '50s and '60s, with the buxom man-hungry alien women? It was hard to not see their point of view...

I think Mars Attacks subtlety made fun of this trend turning the tables and making the aliens outright d_ckheads

I created a story outline once that had a colony, a la Outland, rescue a ditzy blonde girl from an escape pod, then get attacked by gruesome alien stormtroopers. Everyone dies but the hero and the girl, and he blows up the base to stop the attackers, only to turn around and discover that she is the real monster and they were trying to capture/kill her.

Lots of gratuitous violence and nudity.......

              CCC.

I believe I have, particularly in some of the really cheapo ones, but I can't think of any examples.

I sometimes have the problem where I can't see the hero as a hero. Like, in "AI" I found it hard to root for the robot. In "Bicentennial Man" I found myself actively rooting against him.

It occurs to me that your post's premise is close to the central idea of a certain ex-memeber's feature film. Anyone else see "Hunter Prey"?

I remember watching it but the only thing I remember about it was the nice background scenery
