Rodriguez is a really, really good choice.

I'd try and keep Rock for Bannon and get Crowe for Prof Quest, then add Jade with Race's daughter.

Boy do I wish I was directing this...there is only ONE way to do it right.

The opening must be a shot for shot live action version of the cartoon opening, complete with Hoyt Curtain's original music.
It would also double as the movie's trailer.
