Trailer was interesting largely because it played on the nostalgia of STAR WARS. It was a decent enough teaser with some pretty cool imagery (I did like seeing the Star Destroyer grounded and the quasi-skully Vader helmet), but, if it did NOT have Hamill's v/o or an appearance, albeit brief, by Chewie and Han Solo, would it have been received as warmly as it has been?
Personally, I would've liked to have seen the infamous words onscreen "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." after the LucasFilm logo. And why, pray tell good people, is Luke Skywalker referring to his father in the present tense ("my father HAS it") when talking about the Force residing in the Skywalker clan. Hmmmmm.....sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

Having stayed spoiler free for the Phantom Menace......, I am enjoying these little glimpses into this particular gear in the nostalgia machine. I am not placing the bar too high for this movie, but I do hope it has enough going for it that I can enjoy it with my kids.Comment

On a scale of 1-10...my eagerness to see The Avengers: Age of Ultron is a sound and solid 10.
On a scale of 1-10...my eagerness to see SW: The Force Awakens is a sound....ONE BILLION TRILLION TIMES PLUS ONE...AND INFINITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've watched the trailer about 20 times and it seems like for this trailer they reused the bit from Jedi and the only new part of it is when Luke says "you have it". Voice is in a slightly lower register. Either way it's still great. Does anyone know if these movies will be following the Heir to The Empire, any of the post Jedi books, or is it an original screenplay? I'm assuming with what was in the new trailer that this new trilogy will be based on Han and Leia's kids becoming Jedi's."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

I think what really struck me about this trailer is it FINALLY felt like MY Star Wars from childhood. We're finally going to revisit all of my childhood heroes. What's more I feel like I can finally TRUST my feelings on a new Star Wars movie and be as excited as I was after the first one. I think Abrams totally get's it. It's not just about spectacle, it's about great story telling too. I believe his own legacy as a director will be sealed with this. Fingers crossed he delivers. I feel real good about it.Comment

Awesome. Got chills when Han and Chewie appeared.
Some great teaser elements in there... Vader's burned helmet... that iconic lightsabre being handed over.... a familiar hand on R2...
This WILL be great.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

^You can't help but compare this to the Batman V. Superman trailer leaked yesterday. Even though we see some danger and dark elements in the Star Wars trailer, the sense of adventure, fun and HOPE is there. Batman V. Superman looks like it should come with it's own anti-depressant by comparison.

Well said Chris. I think what bothers me about these early scenes from Superman versus Batman is this pervasive theme that seems to hug on the idea of "What does it all mean?" We've already gone down that road on these characters many times. We had that examination of Batman with the Dark Knight series and we had ten years of Smallville to study Superman's place in the world. It feels like watching the origin of Spider-man for the third time...not needed here. We get the social undertones. They're self-evident within the concept. I would rather not sit through another overdone think-piece that feels like an Ang Lee project. Let's open that page of the panel graphic art form and have some fun. The Flash warmly embraces it's comic book roots, but still has time to be dramatic and intense within the scope of comic book sensibilities. All of that is missing. Star Wars is an epic ride in the sci-fi universe. "Force Awakens" feels like it has recaptured that old magic.Last edited by MIB41; Apr 17, '15, 7:34 AM.Comment
