All six Star Wars movies coming to VUDU April 10

Saw this on Yakface. Yes, they are the "special" editions.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I guess… this is good news for.. somebody? Now you can watch Star Wars as it was meant to be seen… on your phone.

I noticed the trailers for Empire and Jedi are careful not to show any obvious special edition changes. They slipped up a bit with SW. You can see the special edition escape pod without the blue and the special edition take off of the Falcon from Mos Eisley.

Lucasfilm finally officially admits the digital releases.

Coming to many digital streaming services including iTunes and amazon.

Noticed something odd watching the trailers on amazon. Star Wars is listed as 1997, Empire as 1980 and Jedi as 1983. Interesting.

[edit] Since I first posted this, amazon has edited the date for Star Wars to 1977.

I would be shocked if these are not the exact same terrible transfers from the previous two Blu Ray releases. Even ignoring the "Special Edition" changes the transfer for Star Wars was especially abysmal with the magenta toned color palette and crushed blacks.

I say this as a hopelessly apologetic Star Wars Fanatic, who loves all things Star Wars, including the Prequels (truly, I do).

But I am loosing my ability to care about any of this. My fandom is at a real low right now, and I feel like I should be more excited than I am, considering Episode VII is only months away.

It's just weird to see boutique video and soundtrack labels lavish so much love and care on lesser films, and see Star Wars get served up like fast food.

I'm hoping this is the last cash squeeze out of the terrible 2004 transfers before the rumored restored theatrical cuts on Blu ray. My interest and support of Force Awakens rests on the OT theatrical cuts getting a Blu Ray this year.

Even for people that like the "special" editions, I do think copying the Blu Rays for a digital release is pretty low even by Lucasfilm standards. Especially at the price they are charging. $20 each? What the!? You can still get all three movies on a six disc Blu Ray/DVD combo for around $41 from the previous re-issue.

I also think it's pretty crappy they are being so ambiguous in the advertising on whether or not these are the "special" editions. Show clips of Hayden in Jedi and Greedo shooting if they are so proud of the changes.

                    Preach it, sister!

Wow I had no idea they were $20 for a digital copy of a bad transfer. Rip off.

Is this primarily for portable devices or home theater? If it's a portable device, it's easy enough to rip a Dvd copy. For home theater blu Ray is my preferred format. I'm failing to see the value here.

Like a lot of other folks, I've had to upgrade film favorites to the new technologies, begrudgingly at times due to "Special Edition" this "Director's Cut" that and so on. I've enjoyed building up my Disney digital library. I really hadn't planned on upgrading my Disney animation (and other things) from DVD to Blu-Ray, but when I do I'll only upgrade provided I can get a 3-way combo of: Blu-ray/DVD/Digital. I'm not sure if I'll take the plunge with Star Wars...they've certainly demonstrated if I wait it out, something better will come along.

I don't get the whole streaming video thing. Who wants to watch movies on a dinky computer monitor or cell phone or tablet?

I'll take my 52" HD TV and Blu-rays thank you. It's like being at the theater only better because I can't go to the theater in my underwear.

uhhh, you do know you can stream on regular tvs too, right? I have Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, etc on my regular tv. And I agree with others, no way I am paying that much for movies I have seen an infinite number of times with the original 3 and the unwatchable prequels.

This video is a perfect example of showing the absolutely abysmal transfer the Blu Ray (and now HD digital) uses for Star Wars. It's way too dark, the colors are beyond oversaturated and everything has a pink tint. I mean, just Look at the landing lights. Just dreadful.

This is "R6S001 - Blu-Ray vs. Legacy" by Mike Verta on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.
