Definitely a nice print. Just requires extensive cleaning and if anyone can do it, Reliance MediaWorks can do it. Interesting to see what news is announced from the WDSHE camp this summer regarding the release of the original theatrical cuts.

I wish they'd just hire Harmy and have him oversee the project. Put out his work with official packaging. It's done perfectly.

There's a Fan Edit called Puggo Grande's 16mm restoration. Dude took an old print of SW as is. It's worth… ahem.. seeking out. Here's a sample:

Watching this did more to transport me back to the 1977 experience than any home video release ever. He also has an Empire one too.

It kills me to say it, but with all the fan preservation efforts out there, I've pretty much lost the need for Disney to do anything with the originals. It's sad, really.

Isn't there original reels in the National Archives storage or something?

I hope it's not true, that
"The negatives of the movies were permanently altered for the creation of the Special Editions, ...".

In the long run, the original unaltered version will be the most important one.
Take a look at restoration projects for old silent movies, such as Fritz Langs Metropolis.
Those projects always try to restore the original version of a movie,
the version that was first shown in cinemas.

I hope they can restore the unaltered version of Star Wars.
Wouldn't the 40th anniversary in 2017 be a good opportunaty for a release of
the original version on Blu Ray (or 4k Blu Ray or whatever...)?

It was also announced that May 26, 2017 is the target release date for Episode 8, so that would be a good year to release the unaltered OT on blu-ray. Maybe throw in the Holiday Special and the original cut of 'The Star Wars' as extras.

It really bugged me that I could not find plain old Star Wars and Indy on DVD in 1998, I had money in hand ready to spend on the good stuff, but they only had present day (of that year) movie junk for the most part, or DVDs that are not interesting or is special to society. Even TPM and LotR-TFotR were VHS only at first, it's crazy to lose retail sales.

Even in 2017, that is another two years of waiting, when we could be watching
Star Wars, at least I'd be watching it every 3 to six months.

Too bad Disney didn't buy Star Wars in 1995, before the film was butchered. Plus, we might have had 20 solid years of new Star Wars movies by now, rather than 3 + Clone Wars.
