I am not nearly as versed in expanded universe as huedell (thanks by the way) but aside from the undeiable cool look of him I go back to the late 70's when as a boy I tuned in for the Star wars holiday sepcial and the only part that was worth it was the 3 mniute animated segment with Fett. I beleive he was the first mail in kenner figure and his 12" figure was amazing especailyl when compared to the other kenner figs. His screen time in the films was short but he is the only bounty hunter with dialog in Empire. These 3 points led to his being a popular character. He and the mandalrian knights have several issues in the old Marvel comic committed to them as well.

Much like ther "cult of Wedge" it is amazing how peripheral characters in the original films take on a life of their own

      I don't like his suit .....
If he had to take an emergeny fast dump, it's just too much stuff to take off.

      Cool ?
      Maybe
      Functional ?
      I don't think so

Imagine running in the stall and trying to get that jetpack and needless crap off in time.

^ ^ In all fairness, Kirk, the actors who portrayed the Fetts (Boba and Jango) had to wear the same costume, and they seemed to have survived without their colons exploding! Just sayin'.

In addition to all the stuff wikipedia mentions in huedell's excellent post above, there is also the matter to consider that ignominious deaths for otherwise scary or "cool" villains are a staple of adventure and fantasy films. Consider the following list:

        * The Wicked Witch -- arguably the coolest, scariest villain ever -- dies when WATER is thrown onto her, and she melts.

        * The three Super-criminals -- escapees from the Phantom Zone -- get their powers taken away and are PUSHED, THROWN or SOCKED into a ravine, in two cases by mere humans.

        * The evil Wizard Saruman -- master of the Uruk-Hai -- gets STABBED by his slimy henchman Grima and thrown over the side of his own tower (in the books he's merely stabbed on the ground during the post-climactic Scouring of the Shire chapter).

        * Blofeld -- the arch-villain and SPECTRE mastermind -- gets tossed from a helicopter into a SMOKESTACK whilst immotile in a wheelchair.

        * Blackwolf -- mutant master of Eldritch magicks in the post-Apocalyptic future -- gets PLUGGED BY A .45 handgun and called a "Son of a *****!"

        * Count Dracula -- as portrayed by Christopher Lee -- always winds SLIPPING AS IF ON A BANANA PEEL and getting skewered on a stake, a cross or a fencepost.

        * The Emperor himself -- Palpatine the Sith Lord -- is picked up manfully and TOSSED into a profoundly deep pit whilst screaming and evidently incapacitated by his own lightning discharge.

There are probably many more that we could collectively add to the list. The point is, humiliating death of overarching villainy is a tried-and-true motif of adventure cinema and literature -- and no one counts Dracula as a less effective villain because he executes a ludcrous pratfall at the end of every single Hammer film of the 50s-70s. Fett's laughable demise is a continuation of this idea; his badassness is reduced to the level of a sight-gag in order to convey to children (and to us if we're watching for this kind of thing): "Look -- the bad guys in life aren't so bad. All you have to do is oppose them -- and they're defeated."

I'm not a hardcore Star Wars fan but I think the Bounty Hunter Greedo had a few lines before Hans Solo blasted him in the bar.

Also, I'm sure Jango Fett has some type of background story that I don't think was discussed in the movie. There must have been some desirable traits if they were going through all the trouble to clone him including Bobba Fett who was yet another clone of Jango.

^ ^ On that score, we do get some insight into Boba's badassness by seeing what his "father" can do in AotC -- after all it's the same suit and the same genetic material! Jango fights one super-powerful Jedi -- Kenobi -- to a stalemate and is killed by another -- Windu -- after Jango has been trampled by the reek and his jetpack disabled. Any non-Force-user who can go toe-to-toe with a Jedi must be a badass in his own right!

I think Jango's Much more of a Bad Arse than Boba Ever thought about being. However this might be a Bias Opionion,.. I played the Jango Fett Video Game a Few yrs back,.. & if it's not in Continuty,.. I don't give a Damn,.. but at the End of the Game Jango took down a Sith Apprentince to gain the right to be Cloned for the Troopers, & became Dooku's right hand Man. Let alone all the monsters & Aliens he took down as well. Then like was stated,.. He went toe-to-toe with the Most Powerful Jedi, imo, with ObiWan, inwhich he did kinda win,.. Obiwan Made Anikan in to Vader, & Obiwan Killed DarthMaul as well as Grevious.

Jango is A Bad Arse,.. & should be called the "Most Feared & Greatest Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy".

Not ,.. His StormTrooper Knock-Off Clone Son.

Well I guess given the Star Wars world double-dipping with Vader and Jabba would take some serious gonads.

Adam West summed that up pretty well

I'd call that grounds for being one of the "greatest" bounty hunters---if not "THE greatest"
----part of being a great bounty hunter is their resourcefulness---not just their physical prowess.

Jango is A Bad Arse,.. & should be called the "Most Feared & Greatest Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy".

Nah---Jango got killed by the very guy that went into a stalemate with Boba (MACE WINDU).

                      Boba wins that one.

                      Boba got it goin on!

He is the "Most Feared" Bounty Hunter because nobody else dares go into the restroom after he's been in there.

JeePERS Vort---and you complimented MY post!

As an aspiring writer of this sort of villain character---you really gave me a lesson
today that I'll keep with me.

And it makes total sense---you can't deny cinema/story-telling history in these cases.
