Late to the party, but loving that picture! I prefer conventional special effects to CGI as well. It actually took more effort and imagination to come up w/ that stuff than to punch keys on a computer."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

While I think CGI is more than just punching keys on a computer, I have been watching the "enhanced" Star Trek TOS lately and I gotta say, give me the old effects back. Some of the scenes look like 90s PC screen savers.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I think I watched Journey to Babel the other night and while the people shots looked nice and crisp, when Sarek's shuttle arrived, I was completely taken out of the moment. It looked weak and then the cg model didn't match the physical prop (!)Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Practical vs. CGI for ST:TOS?
From what I can tell it's more about the ones in charge cheaping out, than any kind of notable CGI tech lacking.
These days CGI tech is really coming into it's own. There's really no excuse for CGI "fixes" of an iconic show like TOS being as universally unaccepted as TOS' seem to be."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment
