The most intensely detailed book series on original Star Trek behind the scenes ever

Each book, covering each season runs about 600 pages (I am assuming the length will be the same for season 3 it has not come in yet, for me). Even the most trivia overloaded original Star Trek fan like me learned a lot of new stuff about many episodes.

And the books also reveal that while it is assumed today that Star Trek could not get good ratings when it was first on, it turned out they won the time slot or came in second many a time. The reason why Trek was constantly on the chopping block was due more to studio politics between Roddenberry, Desilu and NBC than ratings.

I've heard a lot of good things about these books. Many people I know have read them.
