Gareth Edwards to direct Star Wars spin off film for 2016.

It's been heavily rumored to be a Boba Fett film.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Very bad news. Couldn't they find someone of better caliber to direct it? And the screenwriter is a HACK! He has 2 films to his name, his latest- After Earth, won him a RAZZIE. He's also a journalist and editor for the video game industry- go figure. What was it in his resume that impressed Disney so much?? He's also made disparaging remarks about Lucas and his films in online forums. The screenwriter is the ultimate Comic Book Guy.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

Disney's release schedule for SW films over the next few years supposedly looks like this:

      2015: Episode VII
      2016: Boba Fett standalone movie
      2017: Episode VIII
      2018: Han Solo standalone movie
      2019: Episode IX
      2020: "Red Five" standalone movie

I have not seen "Godzilla" yet, but based on reviews I hear the special effects are awesome but his human stars come off a little wooden. So... Sounds like a young George Lucas to me!

You really have to question who these guys know that got them the gig. Their IMDB list of credits is pretty brief. When you consider all the directors that would like a shot at Star Wars, what was it about these two that got them in the door?

Maybe they're talented. That's one possible answer.

Talent alone doesn't seem like enough to get you Star Wars. I mean… it's STAR WARS. There are plenty of talented people I won't hire at my workplace, because they lack a proven record or experience. Sometimes talent isn't enough.

Yes, I understand Star Wars itself was built on Alan Ladd Jr. taking a risk on a talented man with a short resume, but this is a different time and situation.

That's the guy from Godzilla, right?

Good news, he can make a decent movie.
Bad news, we'll see almost two hours of human drama, followed by five minutes of Boba Fett action (at night, in the rain). After that, Boba will be tired but happy...

I sure hope its two hours of Boba Fett stumbling into all kinds of death traps and getting beat by blind guys.

I actually think something like this could work but it would have to be a full-on action film and not a lot of pretense and drama. A film structure like Dredd would be or could be sweet. If they wanted to go really authentic, they could get Daniel Logan to play the part again.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

Because of his roots in the Star Wars Holiday Special, the Nelvana animation always gave me a bit of a Heavy Metal vibe. I think a Boba Fett film with that kind of slant to it would be awesome. Or a Boba Fett film set up like an anthology. 4 stories, maybe different directors. Different styles. One segment animated old school. Have them be tall tales of Boba Fett being told by different spacers in the Cantina who lived to tell about it.

We see Boba crawl out of the Sarlacc pit, scarred and burned by stomach acid.
Boba stumbles up, shouts "I'll get you Solo, and your stupid wookie!!!", loses his balance and takes a header back into the Sarlacc.

Well, then I don't know what to suggest. Maybe Roy Disney was his Dad.

And now it's been announced that Josh Trank (the guy who looks set to screw up the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie) will also be directing one of the stand-alone Star Wars films.
